Anyone know anything about the next gen of nVidia cards? Are they planning on yet smaller die sizes etc?

I have a 570, and I don't fancy buying a new GPU every gen, but every other gen is tempting...

They've just recently did a die shrink from 40nm to 28nm with the 600 series.

So yeah, another 2 years for another die shrink. :)

Still no news of the big brother GK110 though. :(

1000 posts!

So what are their plans for 2013 then? They won't be able to fit more transistors on, so it'll be a case of marginally faster clock speeds? Sounds uninspiring...

Welcome to how its always been.

As a process matures it usually allows for models with quicker clock speeds etc etc, but nothing major until the next node shrink.

This.

Hopefully we'll see some variant of the GK110 in GeForce form next year. But other than that expect a more mature GTX680 with slightly higher clock rates.

There is also rumours here and there about a GTX 685. (Although that is most likely this year rather than next year).

that's GK110 which is already mentioned above - the most recent rumours are that it would be released as GTX780

the rumour that it was going to be 685 was entirely made up on forums based on the fact that everyone originally thought that GTX680 was going to be GTX780 / GK110 and that in actually naming it GTX680 that GK110 could be GTX685

The only definite about GK110 is that around Q4 NV are going to be releasing it as a Tesla card called the K20, but there's no confirmation of a normal desktop version yet

LOL, every generation since the 200 line forums have always thought Nvidia are about to launch a x85 series card. People need to wake and realise that the GTX285 was a one off and hasn't been replicated once which is probably due to Nvidia wanting to keep naming conventions straight forward.
