Does anyone know anything about the next generation Ati cards?
im thinking about going crossfire with hd 3870's
but would like to know how long its going to last?
and all this talk about ati multicore gpus sounds revolutionary :)

From my understanding and what ive seen around forums GPU's have been multicore for a long time they just dont get utilized(??) in the same fashion a mutlicore CPU does.
As for how long untill the new ATI cards are out, at a guess id say 6 to 8 months though im sure someone else around here may have a more definate answer for you.

well you learn something everyday
i only enquire because with the 9800 series coming out early next year i wondered if ati were also releasing something
i dont really want to buy a new mobo so i can go sli but also didnt want to blow money on a card which would be supersceded (spelling?) in less than 6 months

I upgrade every 1.5-2yrs. Just upgraded this last wk from:

AMD Athlon64 3700+
ASUS A8N-e
Corsair 1GB DDR RAM
ATi x1800 XT

to:

Intel Q6600 G0
ASUS P5K Premium
Corsair 4GB DDR2 RAM
nVidia 8800 (GT or GTS (revised, still to decide on this))

That build will last me another 1.5-2yrs before I upgrade again. I red a review on the ATi cards and my person opinion was that they are not better than the nVidia ones at present. You can read an extensive review here:
