There seems to be much talk about new consoles lately.

Seems to be all over the news sites. You know what they say, theres no smoke without fire.

Personally I welcome the new consoles. Multiplatform games like COD etc are reacing their peak and are getting stale. Only slight gameplay adjustments and maps are usually tweaked now.

I look forward to nice 1080p resolutions at 60fps and lots of particle weather effects and atmosphere in games.

I reckon whatever Microsoft and Sony do, they will be eagerly awaiting each others specs and if one WAS a little underpowered you can bet both companies would revise it before release to make sure none of them have a significant performance gap.

The current consoles feel like they've been around forever. It will be end of 2013 at the earliest before the next-gens, well I hope so because I'm about to build a gaming pc :p
 
current formats are most definitely in their twilight years - and if rumours are true (it wouldn't suprise me) then MS are unveiling the new xbox at next years E3 - cant wait!
 
I wouldn't put your hopes on the next gen of consoles having fresh new games on them.
We're still going to get yearly updates of COD,FIFA,golf,PES and whatever else. They'll just have nicer graphics.
 
I think the key thing for me in the next generation is advancements in enemy AI.

I would love this area to be improved,because lets face it graphics are pretty good, and will be good on the next generation.

Also after that it will be interesting to see what they do with physics on the next generation.
 
I still think it will be a couple of years yet. If they were to release one any time soon, I don't think they could make a big enough improvement without it costing about £500. 1080p and 60fps would be nice but I don't think that will happen. We know from the PC that takes much more GPU power compared to the same game running at a lower resolution at 30-40fps. If they made a 1080p/60fps rule then the games themselves wouldn't look much better apart from the resolution and frame rate. 720p with no upscaling is probably more realistic.

I Know what your saying but in defence each new genaration of HW has spawned its own IP's 360 for example has come up with GOW, Mass effect, Alan wake etc so I think they'll be a a lot of new stuff too ;)
