I don't think you can really compare them since they are a different class of chip, comparing these with Xeons would be better I think? When Tyan release the motherboards in the UK, the 22xx models will be my next upgrade.

This AMD press release officially announces their new version of their Opteron server processor, but of even more interest is that AMD has it has completed "the design, or tape-out, of its native Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors," which should be released in mid-2007:
