I am looking to get a new laptop for university. But I was wondering whether it is worth it to get it now or to wait to see if Intel will bring out some new processors that will be worth the wait.

Thanks

You could wait until Broadwell which comes out in the holiday season this year. If you are not too bothered though getting a laptop now would still be a good investment.

Personally I'll be buying a laptop fairly soon and I doubt I'll wait for the new processors.

But if he needs it for uni, I assume he wants to know if anything new will be out before August/September. In which case, Broadwell won't be in time.

No-one does any work at uni before mid October at the earliest ... Broadwell laptops should be available before then. It should be a big upgrade over Haswell in terms of power consumption, and if you're not getting a separate discrete GPU, the integrated graphics will be more acceptable (though drivers no doubt will still be appalling).

This is true.

I'm getting my laptop for Uni as well but I'll definitely need it before term starts. Doing a computer science degree without a computer is pretty hard :).

I will have my desktop computer, and my laptop. But my desktop is not portable and my laptop is about 8 years old.

Can't remeber where I read it, but apparently they* now think mobile Broadwell should arrive in September with desktop variants pushed out to 2015.

*they being the people on that site I can't remember. :D
