Hey,

im in the pr of changing my "out and about" Mac laptop, and it is a 2017 model and can run (legitimately) macOS Ventura.

do we think that support will stop for new OS after this in 2023? Or maybe get a couple more?

That’s the thing, once the transition to Apple silicon is complete, this won’t be possible.

I still reckon it’ll be good for Ventura and the next release in 2023.
that would be a bonus, but happy with Ventura compatibility as it’s only For basic media consumption..

Apple won't drop support for all Intel macs the second they stop selling them (i.e. the completion of the transition). They still sell Intel macs to this date, and they will continue to get new OS upgrades for several years. As long as they support one Intel mac, there will be ways to DIY install it on older macs too.

The day will come when Apple drops support for all Intel macs, but that's at least another good 3-4 years away.

yeah, I’m assuming what?? At least the 3 year mark for full support to go..

I get the new Mac tomorro, really excited, will update soon as I get it and up and running.

Quick update, I received my "new" MBP today, and have finished updating and installing a few apps I use..

Overall, great condition, but top case has a few minor scuffs, but the rest is really good, and hey, it is a used laptop at the end of the day..

everything so far seems to be running fine, and a cycle count on the battery of only 25! so a win there..

Gonna spend the next several days checking out to see if I'm 100% keeping it or changing for a different one if I discover a fault or not happy in general with it.

Will update some photos when I get a chance to the "hardware" section.. :)
