Next lens for the d50

Budget about £300, I have the 18-70mm and looking for something in the region of a 70-200 or 70-300, macro mode would be a plus

If only I could afford the 18-200 nikkor which is meant to be an awesome lens, but alas im too poor at the moment so alternatives are needed - cheers!

I have a Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro lense for my D50 (tho ive recently just purhcased a 50mm Macro lense for macro work)

Its a nice lense, some say its to soft in the macro range (200-300mm) but i cant say ive noticed it. If you dont mind the metre odd minimum focussing distance its a nice bit of kit, but the focussing distance could be handy for insects and the like where u need to maintain some distance.

Sure, any out of focus bits are due to my lack of ability rather than the lense.

it is pretty nice...ive just spotted a Nikon 70-210 4.5/5.6 for about a hundred quid second hand aswell - has anyone used this? Ken rockwell loves it but ive heard his opinion isnt always the most respected thing..

the 70-210 has a decent reputation and if it's a good example then I'd go for it. That said I have the 70-300 APO DG for my D200 (it was a prelude to the 70-200 VR) and it's pretty good, not the quickest but decent enough quality

I decided to go for the sigma, got it for 160 which isnt too bad
