I know these threads come up all the time ;)

Canon 550d

I have a 35mm f2.0 which I love (Did have a 50mm but was just close and I was forever stepping back in the room against a wall to take a picture).
The 18-55 kit lens
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6

Really found a like for landscapes / beachscapes at the moment so looking for something better at the wider end of the scale.
Budget really less than 400.

Tempted by the Tamron 17-50/2.8 that Raymond recommended in another thread as a travel lens as its a stonking price and better quality than the kit one, I do like the width the kit lens gives me so I think doing a visit to say a castle with the 35mm and this might cover me really well..
How about a Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6?

What do you think? I've been looking at wider prime but the money shoots up.

If you don't feel like you want wider than 17mm, then the Tamron 17-50mm non-VC is a cracking lens for the price. Hell, you could probably just about fit in (or just over) the Sigma 10-20mm if you go 2nd hand.

I like the way your thinking, best of both worlds.

do you mean the 2.8-4.5? as the 2.8 is around £450-£480ish?

depends which lens and if it's second hand or not. Some of the older sigma 18-50mm f2.8 lenses can be picked up very cheaply as they are not very highly regarded despite being pretty good. The new 17-50mm f2.8 OS is easily there best to date and probably the second best lens in this catagory for a canon shooter after the OEM lens
