neXT- Look familiar?

Indeed. :p

Not knowing much about the history of NEXT, I'd say he did it when he got kicked out of Apple, just before Apple started dieing. ;)

Yeah that's pretty much it. Left apple and started neXT to compete. Made it TOO good, in that it was just too expensive. There's some very good books all about the whole thing. I'm not once for reading books, and even I thought so ! :p

yeah i was reading about all this a while back (shortly after i bought my first mac actually :)) - he developed NeXT after getting kicked out and subsequently NeXT ended up being bought by Apple and NeXTSTEP (the OS) formed the official basis for OS X. when Apple took over NeXT he basically got reinstated to his rightful position at the top of the pile ;)

(although he allegedly gets paid a salary of $1 a year or summat soft like that... probably a tax thing i doubt he needs the cash :p - next was bought for half a billion dollars or summat like that :o)

wonder if i could install a copy on my VMware purely out of interest of the early beginnings of the os we now know and love?

That's correct.

Steve Job's annual salary is $1, the rest is made from 5.4 Million shares that he owns :D

the rest is made from 5.4 Million shares that he owns :D
he probably has a few bob left over also from when disney bought pixar (can't remember if SJ owned Pixar or was CEO or whatever... but i'm sure there was a couple of quid in it for him :D)

the man he be a legend :D

He's hardly changed apart from his clothes and hair!

It always amazes me when I look at videos of the old Macs and PCs and realise how far they have come in a relatively short space of time. Makes me wonder what we will have in 15-20 years. Scary thought really.
