Hi, does anyone know when the next ATI cards are due out, i remember someone saying late summer but is proably a myth, my system needs to have power, not my flimsy 7300 ^_^.

Not sure about a HD 2900 XT-X but as posted above the Roumers are said to be later on this year for the HD 2950 XT, And if it is true, i know what ill be upgrading to ;) i fancy a peice of that 65NM core with 1gb GDDR4  That is if it exists at all, there just roumers ;)

You mean after the HD2900XT(X)?

Not one of those people who always "waits for the next gen"?

i built my first pc a few weeks ago so i cant be defined as that ;), used a 6800gt since it came out untill now, im just one of those who likes to use his money wisely on something that will last longer than a 8xxx.

that 2950 sounds like a nice peice of kit, wonder how well gddr4 will perform, i want to play test drive and oblivion at the money but card afford to get one without saving up for watercooling.

hard decisions.

You will always be waiting for the 'Next Major Card'

Its just when to get on which is the trouble. Both ATi and Nvidia have got some great cards out at the moment for all budgets.

but are unknown in how they perform in DX10 games like crysis and assasins creed etc, at least not to the public eye.

i just dont see the point in spending £180-350 on a graphics card that has been out for 6 months (albeit its a great card) i want something that i know performs well, really unknown untill the benchmarks come out but when buying a new component its always a shot in the dark for me.

my 7300gt runs most of my low end games fine on 1680x1050 like Warcraft and battlefield 2 on a lower resolution.

I know what your saying,

but realistly any 8800 GTS/GTX or Ultra will run all the mentioned games without a problem and with plenty eye candy. Theres always going to be a faster card out there.

Personally Ive just brought a 8800GTS to replace my 7900GTO, although not a big upgrade it has not cost me as much as it would have done if I would have kept hold of the card for another generation. Although not everyone can afford to do this.

thinking of selling that 79 =D?

i was going to go for an 8800gts but my eyes dropped when i seen my old crt smell like burnt toast so i had to wait a while as i had to get a new monitor, the gts was still in my mind but i got thinking i will wait till crysis is out as i beleive that will be a benchmark for quite some years to come.

1680x1050 no more no less, thats the standard ress i play at, now my eyes have adjusted to the beautifull textures ^_^.

haha!

Already sold my 7900GTO, took less than 5 minutes to sell it to my mate :p Was a great clocker too!

Yeh at that res you will need to part with quite a bit dough. I only game at 1440x900 with my 19" monitor so I can get away with my 320mb GTS :D

You will be waiting for ever if you want a card that can max out all games, as soon as theres a new high end card you think lifes good then another game comes along which makes the card look rubbish.

OT but i love the way so many people play WoW that its included in virtually all reviews from the major sites even though its about as graphically intensive as pushing a block of putty through a seive.

I can play CoH 1680x1050 full settings on my X1800 no problems :/ To be perfectly honest now is not the time to upgrade your graphics card i would definitely say wait it out a bit; at least untill some Dx10 games start hitting the shelves. Only upgrade if you need to, not because some fat cats are trying to shove you the next best thing.

I'm on the point of doing exactly the same thing with my MSI 7900GTO 512MB card but not sure what to ask for it. I may even leave it in the PC, alongside my new card, to run 2 more Monitors for FSX. (not sure if that is possible)

I originally bought 2 MSI 7900 GTO's for SLI but ended up putting the one in a different PC, so never tried SLI. I use my main PC for a bit of Video work and scenery design for FSX (running a NEC 21.3" Monitor) and I'm still unsure if I buy a GTS/GTX or Ultra for what I need. How is your new GTS compared to the 7900 and do you think I would be better off buying the GTX/Ultra for what I use it for?

*awaits anyone with a muse sig ¬_¬*

I vote 8800GTS now.

And when the new cards come out you can always sell it to make up some of the cash.

:D And I thought PK, that I was getting some 'words of wisdom' to help make a decision today. On reflection it may be best to wait 'till FSX has the DX10 update before doing anything - the price should have tumbled by then too.

PS - Got 'carried away' when I was in 'sig mode' - should pass now :o

My mate brought 2 7900GTOs, what a waste of time that was. The only difference was in 3DMark 06. Battlefield 2142 ran slower, In fact most games run on the single card. All that effort, power, heat e.t.c. :o

Personally I would go for the GTS or the GTX, depending on budget. I went for the GTS as it only cost me £100 to upgrade.

Theres a great thread which ive shared my experiences going from my GTO to a GTS. See Below...
