I've not played any of these but I'm thinking of purchasing 1 tonight from the bay.

Sega Dreamcast

Nintendo 64

Nintendo Gamecube

Just looking for some fun games to play and add to my collection, i'm edging towards the dreamcast but the pads look clumsy?

i think it would depend on the games you enjoy

for arcade games and serious genre games like rpgs or racing, primarily i'd go for the dreamcast

and the other two have the party style games such as mario carts and super smash bros

to sum it up as get one of the nintendos if enjoying with friends... i could be wrong though as i never played the dreamcast that much.

Dreamcast pad is ok once you get used to it, does feel a bit weird going back to it but its a good pad in general. I would go with the Dreamcast, some fantastic games to pick up.

DC is good because of the fact it boots anything.

GC is great but you may aswell save up a bit and get a Wii

N64 doesnt have many good games but the ones it does have are among the best ever made. Having said that the advent of the Virtual console and OoT being available with windwaker the wii for n64 looks good too.

So id buy a DC and then get a wii in the longer run to play all the old GC and N64.

I didn't realise the Wii was backward compatible.

I think I'll try and get a decent DC and hope I get used to the pads :)

Agree, but I would still get a N64 as most of it's great games will never come to the Wii's VC.
Goldeneye, Banjo Kazooie/tooie, Killer instict gold, conker, blast corps etc are all made by rare and will probably never appear appear on the Virtual Console. :(

If you want a gamecube you can plug the controllers in and memory cards and play the games on a wii. Its basically a gamecube built in

I was recently was looking at which Retro console to go for and ended up with the SNES and think its a great purchase with lots of excellent games. With regards to other systems i would look at Saturn or Dreamcast both had excellent games (Shinning forces 3, Power Stones, etc) and systems were overlooked by a lot of people when they first came out. The only thing to be wary of with all 3 is that some of the old games can cost a bit, especially the Saturn. Many of the RPG i want for the SNES are over £30 which while not expensive doesn't make going retro necessarily as cheap as i hoped.

Personally i would avoid the N64, i dug mine out of the loft recently and while the Zelda games are still good other don't hold up so well (Goldeneye) and the graphics on the N64 also seem quite poor. Partly i think this is due to the poor quality picture output as for some reason the PAL Gamecube doesn't use RGB scart.

Another tip may be worth getting a foreign console as it will open up the choice of games you can get.

nah a nintendo 64 rules. Or get the project 64 emulator for the pc. Can enable antialasing making mario look good with smooth edges etc.

its all about jet set radio if your gonna get a dreamcast. just be ready for hand cramp, the pads are rubbish! worth it though haha :D

my opinion is either get a wii or get the dreamcast why?
Simply put the wii is backwards compatible with all GC games (so might as well have a newer console that can play newer games as well, so really not much point in a GC).
Also, with the virtual console you can buy or will be able to buy a lot of the best N64 games on the wii not all ofcourse but certainly most of them.

I havent owned a dreamcast nor played its games (same with GC for that matter) but, the N64 had some of the best games (if not exactly many) ever made.

In fairness to everyone saying "get a Wii instead of a GC + N64", the Wii costs £250 and is still pretty hard to find, whereas you can swap a bag of crisps for a gamecube these days. And despite being largely ignored, it's an excellent console with a ton of great games for it. Moreso than either the DC or the N64 imo.

I've just bought a DC with 12 games all paid for so just gotta wait for delivery  thanks for everyones comments.

Chu-Chu Rocket
Silent Scope
Tomb Raider The Last Revelations
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
Ecco the Dolphin
Snow Surfers
Crazy Taxi
Matt Hoffman
Tony Hawks
Marvel Comics
Trick Style
Wacy Races

2 controllers
1 VMU

All the leads all boxed with original paperwork :D

the wii costs 250 quid?

Your adding things in ?

I did say get a DC then get a wii later (when availability should be better/price may well go down beofre the year is out).

If he gets a wii he gets to play gc, n64 and Wii plus Snes, Mega drive, Nes, PC Engine and rumoured Neo Geo/ C64.
