i'm not sure what to do now, do i get the 380X Crossfire, one only, or wait for the new Titan/ 390X ??..................1080p

the 970 SLI definitely has more stutter than a single 970, because i had a single card for 2 months, the pc also takes longer to start up and shut down...... a single 970 was also ok at 1080p, i never really needed SLI.

Both the Titan Z and the 390X will be fine but will they be too expensive

For 1920x1080?

Just wait for the newer cards to come out and bag a 290X or GTX 980 cheaper than they are now.

I'll never buy another 2x on one card again and especially nothing from AMD. I used them for a few generations and had nothing but problems with every single one and if it's your only card then you're pretty stuck when it does go wrong.

and are you really running at only 1080p ?

yea 1080p TV

SLI was just for future proofing but of course it's run out of RAM, my pc keep loosing SLI, the software dumps it back to a single card only... you have to keep an eye on it

if i return to one really big card then i can increase my Overclock back to 4.8 or even 5.0............but right now it has to be at 4.6 to reduce the stuttering/ blue screens............ the pc hasn't crashed once since reducing it

it's an interesting topic because do i wait another 2 months or until the Autumn

what i would do is infact what i am doing, return the 970,s and pick up the cheapest second hand 290 and bide my time and take a look at the 380x and 390x

Seems overkill for 1080p, that resolution is hardly demanding even for 1 card and I think a lot of people have jumped on the 970 witch hunt.

If it was my choice I'd get a 980.. as for future proofing, how long will it be before you go 4K or whatever you want to do? if it's some time away then there will be another generation of cards out by then and priced will have changed again.

yes people have definitely gone over the top with regards to the 970, but with one card only you still took a hit if you turned up all the settings....esp in Metro Last Light and FC3

i can only really test this for sure by removing the lower card tonight

Im kinda in the same boat, wifes allowed me cash to upgrade this year, so im sitting on my 290 Tri-X until i see what AMD has to offer, if its more expensive than the current Nvidia offerings and hardly any better or around the same price but hardly any better then im going to switch to Nvidia and Gsync, which will be a shame as i was hoping for an AMD Freesync setup.

why dump them..............just wait like i'm doing, simply back off the AA and the Super sampling etc................go from 16X down to 4X, I bet you wont even notice it

.

i'm thinking about reliability and really good performance, as opposed to stuttering and too much spare power that's not needed, dont forget that we'll probably upgrade again in mid 2016.

so just buy what will last you one year only... but keeping a close eye on your RAM

one card = enough power at 1080p with improved stability/ less stuttering

so it looks like either a 290 8GB........or a 380X....BUT, the Titan and the 390X look like a waste of time, the 980 might not have enough RAM

but one would still like to buy something nice and new, i think the best is a single 380X, but the most powerful one you can get......a single card means i can increase my OC back up to 4.8 or even 5.0

yea but i like buying stuff ;)

we really need the 380X soon, i'm getting so bored waiting and the 290x is a sidestep on a slightly downhill gradient ;)

if the 380X is say 20fps faster at 1080p than a single 970 then i'll be pleased
