Evening.

Bit bored at the moment, so thought I'd look at upgrading something again

My current spec is in my sig, I was thinking that the best upgrade would be a new processor & mobo (current one is socket 754), but was just wondering what you all think, is this the best move?

I play games (BF2, HL2 etc) mostly on a 19" LCD with a bit of surfing thrown in, using an MX510 mouse and saitek eclipse keyboard, with a seagate barracuda hd and lacie usb hd. I think that's everything :D

Thanks

The problem that you face here is that you could only go onto socket 939 with your current Ram which would allow dual core but ultimately be a bit limiting or you could find an ASRock VSTA socket 775 motherboard which also supports ordinary DDR Ram(one of the few that does) and then get a Conroe chip.

Basically I think if the system isn't too slow for you then I'd save the cash for the moment until you can upgrade the whole thing but if not the second option is the one I'd be going for. :)

Didn't think about the ram being a problem, which makes it an expensive updgrade :(

Think I'll have to wait for a bit then and see what develops next year... AMD super chip anyone?

Thanks for the help.

In all fairness you have a very nice gaming system there too, if you went to an X2 or Core 2 Duo you might be a little underwhelmed at the difference.

Really? I thought it would be quite a big step? Or is that just the move to Conroe?

To be fair, my system is working well at the moment and playing all games. I'd rather spend money on some good games, but there aren't any! And so I get the itch to upgrade again...

Thanks
