I currently have the following

Main Comp:
Intel Q9650 4gb Geil Ram 1 2tb HD, 1 1tb HD and a 250gb HD, ATI 5770 with a belinea 20inch monitor, Audigy 2 zs sound card.

HTPC
Dual core 8400 cpu 4gb Ram, zotac 9300 mb, 160gb hard disk.

Server
ion dual core 1gb ram 2 * Samsung F4 hd.

Also have a 1156 Motherboard and 8 gb of the OCZ memory that was on offer recently.

Am thinking just to keep up with the times, also whilst it is still fetching a decent amount second hand, sell the q9650 and motherboard / ram and buy a 2500k and new motherboard possibly add in a asus sound card as well.

Other option is buy a new monitor 24 inch - don't have room for dual set-up.

Or sell the q9650/ board and ram and get a i5 760 to fit to the 1156 board and get a sound card and monitor. Another option is to put the q9650 into the htpc and sell the 8400.

What would you guys do / what would you do differntly?

Main uses are general web browsing and occasional game playing - yes I know what I have is probably overkill for my needs but when I do play games I want to play them smoothly with most of the options set to high.

Wow, so many options.

If you have a 1156 mobo and RAM, it's definitely worth using that. An i5 760 is an excellent processor and would be ideal for what you need. It really isnt worth going to Sandybridge if you're halfway there with the other mobo.

I'd filter things down from there: stick the Q9650 in the htpc and sell the e8400 (although the 8400 is plenty for a htpc)

Thanks for the replies.

Reason for going Sandybridge is just trying to keep reasonably current with tech.

The 1156mb is an EVGA MATX board that I bought off mm to use but never got round to using it. It would not bother me if I sold it on to add to the available money for the upgrade or indeed keep it and use it in the new rig.

Would i notice much differnece between the i5 760 and the Q9650?

regards,

Matt
