So......how many of you are looking forward to the next version of windows server? Ive always been a person that likes having the newest tech etc.... so as soon as windows server 2k8 was released i had it, even though i had a few issues originally i still stuck with it. My problem this time is in the next 6 months were going to buy a whole whack of new servers etc... with server 2k8r2 ofc, and i think this time (mainly due to financial contraints) im going to spend atleast a year testing the new windows server before deploying it.

What about the rest of you, are any of you planning to get new servers later on so you can get it when it comes out or are any of you planning to wait a while like myself?

Also based on what youve seen so far, what do you guy feel about windows 8 as a client OS, in all honesty(my personal opinion here) i think this new tiles thing is going to be ****. I currently love windows 7 and think its a brilliant OS. Are any of you planning to start upgrading from XP - 7 and dont even care about windows 8.

would be nice to start some sort of long discussion based on what people upgrade plans are(if you have the authority that is) and what everyone feels really

We try to stay ahead of the game (we implemented 2008R2 nearly a month before the official RTM date). I'm more looking forward to all the new system center products and DPM2012 than I am the new OS, but no doubt I'll be sodding busy again with a full scale migration.

Can't see how you think Windows 8 will be "****", it's essentially Windows 7's UI, with the option (option, not forced, classic Win7 appearance is still there) of Metro UI. I'll probably migrate to it as soon as I can get my hands on a decent stable build (muchlike I ran Windows 7 Beta2, then RC1 then RTM).

I can't say a lot due to the standard NDAs but we've seen a fair amount of the next versions all round and look like getting it in advance of the rest of the UK (Microsoft have offered us being one of the first service providers to see it worldwide).

It's currently reasonable, nothing revolutionary in my view but I find it difficult to get excited about windows releases these days, not using it as a desktop OS much anymore and not having much belief in it's future in the cloud. It'll do a job and the virtualisation parts look much improved (much needed though)
