Hey people!

I have a question about my Dashcam.

I have the Nextbase 412GW.

Recently I left the car with the dealer to attempt to fix an issue, unfortunatly they failed this time but its going back... but thats now the matter here.

When the dealer spoke to me after, he mentioned that i shouldnt look at the dash cam.. phone conversations and the like. Fair enough he may have been saying some personal stuff whilst forgetting its there.

The issue i have had is that when i went to look at it anyway (hey.. its mine after all)... It seems that he WIPED the sd card...

Now then... Why he would feel the need to do so i dont know, never mind the point that he had no right to do so.

My question... IS there any way to passcode these dash cams? so that people cannot simply wipe the cards without me present?

Its going back to the dealer soon and I would like to keep an eye on what they do with the car whilst its in their possession.

You can't prevent anyone wiping the card unfortunately. I would ask him politely why he wiped your card and to not touch it in future.

Well i don't particularly want to annoy him too much. Just found out that an issue with the car may not be covered by his warranty company. Plus i like to avoid awkward discussions unless absolutely necessary. If it happens again i will have words.. I wonder if i can put some type of device over the camera to stop people pressing the touch screen.

If you don't want any confrontation then remove the camera the next time it's in at the dealers, what you don't know won't annoy you.

Did they have to take it out for a test drive?

Certain dashcams you can buy a box that can't be opened without a key (roadhawk supply something so companies can run them in trucks without worry of someone removing the cam and/or card)

Every garage I've used aren't bothered in the slightest by the dashcam.

They drove it at least 30 miles.

I'd be extremely wary of a garage that's wiped an SD card. I'd be inclined to think they've done something they shouldn't and have wiped the card to cover their tracks.

Could you not use some data recovery software to recover the files he wiped? I'd be intrigued as to why he deleted it.

You could try the likes of Recuva or something like that on the SD card, see what it finds!

I'd expect they probably drove your car with a little too much excitement or were talking quite rudely about you or in general whilst working on the car. How much fuel was used and what were the mpg readings after they returned it?

Seems excessive for a test drive, from past threads on here when that many miles have been put on a car it's due to them taking it out for a 'rag' or using it to go pick something up. Both would warrant them clearing your SD Card to remove the proof.
