*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

The overall vibe I'm getting from 5.1 is not a good one....

Phone just seems more glitchy and laggy than before.

Also had a strange issue a few days ago in chrome. I was getting some sort of black square corruption. Anywhere I put my finger the screen would produce a black square... I had to reboot.

Factory reset?

Didn't do a factory reset. I just installed the OTA update when it was sent to me.

Think that will help?

Yes :)

If anyone is running CM and is annoyed by not having the ability to use HDR, here's the resolution to your problem!

Ok so what you'll need, considering you flashed CM you are all set.
- Custom Recovery TWRP (Highly recommended to use 2.8.5.3 or lower) or Clockwork
- gapps camera module - 4.4.4, 5.0.x and 5.x
So depending on which Cyageonmod you're running download the module from these threads, I'm using CM11 M11 which is based of Kitkat 4.4.4 (you can check which version you're running in settings/about phone) so for me its the first link.

After downloading gapps camera module place the .zip file in a location easy to locate via custom recovery, reboot to custom recovery go to install and flash the gapps camera module. BTW you don't have to wipe the cache partition! :D

Tadam! The HDR option is back in the camera options

If anyone needs any help with flashing or is unsure about something, you can ask me. But I'm still a newbie when it comes to custom ROM's and modules so can't guarantee anything. :p

Can you still buy these? Was thinking about getting a Moto G, but I have a feeling that the phone is a little under spec'd given what some of the reviews are saying (even though it is a budget phone).

Correct, I have found some sites, however I'm not so sure if they are that reputable. As they are Eol are these sites stocking brand new phones or old ones?

Also I am quite tempted to get a reconditioned one from smartfones or refurb phones, thouh not sure about the second site.

Got 5.1 OTA last week. I never get the lag and home screen refresh issue anymore. However, it seems to randomly disconnect from my Pebble watch and also the phone itself sometimes randomly reboots. Battery life is about the same as with 5.02

I am on cataclysm 5.1 and have updated the bootloader and radio to latest versions. Battery life is the best since ive had the phone, before these updates and on lollipop or kitkat i had to charge twice daily now i just charge once.

I'm tempted by Cataclysm, but I'll wait 1-2 month before upgrading to lolipop. Xposed by that time should be also available for lolipop as people are currently working on it at XDA forum. :)

Edit:

cataclysm Stable is out

Well given that some people on here have used smart fone store, and they had a 16GB grade b in stock, I decided to go for that. From the sounds of it, it won;t be mint condition, but to be honest, for the price of £170, I can't moan considering I was going to go for a Moto G for £150... this is a better spec phone.

Seems a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to battery life. Mine seems pretty good. Used 32% and its been off charge for 14hrs. Only around 1.5hrs screen in time though.

im on lollypop 5.1 and battery is ridiculous. whats the best rom about these days?

Kitkat 4.4.4 or 4.4.2, I would personally go for 4.4.4 if you were willing to revert back to kitkat. I'm currently running CM11 M11 along with CM Kernel and its pretty stable.

If you want 5.1 lolipop with better battery life, get the Cataclysm 5.1 ROM. It's pretty much stock ROM which has been tweaked a little to perform better, as for the kernel I think Franco Kernel is the best one when it comes to battery life.

Some links for you, I'm still thinking what to flash - Cataclysm or Chroma. I don't like heavy modded ROM's, well except for the CM ROM's... :p

Cataclysm

Chroma

Nexus 5 links to Kernels, ROM's etc...

Edit
Chroma

Is there anyway to find out if you are on an official rom or not? I know you can check what the rom version is, but I wanna check to make sure it hasn't been tampered with.

I.E. someone has made out that the rom is stock yet has installed a rom that is based on stock and has some malware included in the rom.

Guys anyone seen this before?
Im running stock 5.1 and every so often its if the volume rocker is stuck down. It shows it at mute and when I try to increase the volume it sticks at 0%. Attempting to move the slide bar with my finger just moves it back to 0%. A reboot fixes it allowing me to go up and down in volume. The fact it works fine after a reboot says to me its a software issue.

Can you buy replacement inserts for the lettering on the back? My mates just picked up a white version but wants to put black inserts in to make it stand out abit for some reason.

Thinking of picking up a 2nd hand nexus again myself i do miss mine even though i love my z3c
