*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

Guys anyone seen this before?
Im running stock 5.1 and every so often its if the volume rocker is stuck down. It shows it at mute and when I try to increase the volume it sticks at 0%. Attempting to move the slide bar with my finger just moves it back to 0%. A reboot fixes it allowing me to go up and down in volume. The fact it works fine after a reboot says to me its a software issue.

I used to get this quite often, seemed to just sort it out one day so I'm pretty sure its software.. Could be a specific app I suppose?

Can you buy replacement inserts for the lettering on the back? My mates just picked up a white version but wants to put black inserts in to make it stand out abit for some reason.

Thinking of picking up a 2nd hand nexus again myself i do miss mine even though i love my z3c

Paint them? Make the X multi coloured!

So I was thinking about buying a Nexus 6, dropping Vodafone's 3G yearly contract for an EE 4G contract and selling off my Nexus 4 and 5 to part fund the Nexus 6, or at least offset the cost of the Nexus 6.

I got myself a free EE sim card a few months ago to test the reception at home and especially in my basement cellar bedroom where the Vodafone 3G reception is so poor that if I didn't use their Sure Signal device I wouldn't have any reception at all. I tried the EE sim card in my Nexus 5 and got quite good reception; almost full strength so that's strengthened my desire to ditch Vodafone for EE.

However when I got home and removed my Nexus 5 from its case to remove the Vodafone SIM card I found that on the left hand side of the phone, near the volume rocker, the case had partially popped out and also warped a bit. This must have only happened recently, perhaps even this morning? I was on the Overground reading the Metro app and when I put the phone in my pocket the phone felt warmer than normal. How much could I have expected for a Nexus 5 in good condition and how much could I expect now? See photo below. Would it be worth getting a new back cover fitted?

Just pop the cover off. Its only little clips that hold it together. Use a guitar pick or similar and work your way around from the bit already raised. If the battery is damaged/expanded then just replace it. They are only £8 new. It would probably give you better battery life too. It will take about 10mins tops to remove cover, Change battery and refit cover.

Cheers. Will do. Where can you recommend I get a battery and back cover from so I know they are genuine parts?

Or a list of all nexus 5 parts here.

I've bought heaps of replacement parts for all types of phones from them. The rear cover is a reusable item but you can buy new from there too I believe.

A guide here for you.

Thanks for linking that site! Had been looking at dodgy looking Chinese parts before!

Fantastic! Thanks. Will look at this over the weekend.

Indeed. I wanted reputable parts and not dodgy stuff, especially if I want to sell the Nexus 5 on. :)

No problem folks. The N5 is probably one of the easiest phones I've done work to.

I experienced an few issues yesterday with mine. First of all with the battery. It was down to 54% in a few hours with 34mins Screen on time. A reboot sorted the quick battery discharge. Maybe had an app stuck, Who knows. Seems I have this every so often.

Second issue (which I think someone reported earlier on in the thread but cannot find) was a black blocks appearing when I was scrolling the internet. Again a reboot resolved this.
