*** Nexus 7 2nd Gen thread ***

How are folks tethering their non-LTE tablets to their phones?
I'm interested in the Nexus 7, would want to use it out and about, but don't fancy springing for the LTE version.

Can one tether with bluetooth, or only via wifi access point hosted by the phone. I'd like to be able to set up phone and tablet once, then as long as the two devices were in the same room/train/car etc, the tablet would always be able to access the phone. Is such seamless operation possible yet?

You'll be pleased to know that's exactly how it works :) Bluetooth and WiFi work with mine via iPhone 4.

That sounds pretty good, thanks. Do most people tether to their phones rather than buy the 3G/LTE version then?

How does the phone battery life take it? My phone is a Moto Defy+, with Android 2.3.6. Is that going to play nice?

Anyone else got a background hiss at low volume via the speakers?

Fine on headphones, and OK at louder volumes. Guess its just cheap hardware.

I've had a nightmare of a time trying to get auto rotate to work on mine, anyone else had this issue? I unlocked the boot loader and flashed it with the stock build but still no joy, I even tried the apps that test the sensors but had no luck there either. I can set it manually with Ultimate Rotation Control but even Forced Auto won't make it rotate automatically.

I bought mine from PC World but it's outside the 21 day no quibble exchange so I'm guessing they'll want to RMA it back to Asus?

Decided to skip on the Note 3, keep my S4 and get one of these in 16gb. Managed to get it through Tesco with discount for £149 after 20% discount and and £10 clubcard vouchers.

Can anyone recommend any good cases?

Both sound faulty, go and get them swapped out, and don't take crap about sending them for RMA if it's clear there's a problem.

Does Hide My Root or similar enable Sky Go to work if I root my device?

I want to root it but I really need Sky Go.

Ive got the poetic slimline case - its a great little unit. Think I saw one in the MM too.

Having moved from the iPad2 - I certainly don't look back.

I rated mine a couple of days ago, mainly to be able to install a proper adblocker, and get QuickICS browser back.

Very easy using the tool available over at the XDA forums. There's a program for windows that can do it all, very useful.

QuickICS? why not use ASOP browser it can be installed without root :)

Because QuickICS runs on top of ASOP browser and gives you quick thumb controls, along with a few other improvements probably but I just use it for the thumb controls.

Are people using the OTG cable and external hard drive/usb stick for movies ok with these? Read a few things of people having to change language/reboot etc. This still an issue?

What defects have these devices been launched with? I remember the Nexus 7 suffering issues like screen lift and backlight bleed etc.

Ok so what lovely defects have these devices been launched with? I remember the Nexus 7 suffering issues like screen lift and backlight bleed etc.

4 of us have these 2nd gen nexus 7's
we ALL suffer one common problem - screen calibration. When you tap somewhere it doesnt always register, usually an intermittant issue and cant be replicated reliably but defo there.

ONLY problem we have tbh, otherwise absolutely gorgeous devices

Same, but this is a known bug that Google introduced with 4.3 so they should be able to fix it.
