Nexus 7 or Nook hd?

I'm thinking of buying a tablet for someone and I can't decide which one would be better. I'm not really that tech savvy and I don't understand all the tech parameters that a tablet should have, neither much the apps that they should have. I did read some reviews on the internet and it seems to be more towards the Nexus 7. Although Nook seems to be popular more in the US.

To be honest, if I could pick just by the design I'd go for the Nook, it looks so cool. Nexus seems narrower and appraently the screen resolution is better with the Nook too.

Hmm..anyone got any of these tablets and cares to share their experience?

Depends what you or they are going to use it for really. The Nook is arguably the better tablet (Just picked up a Nook HD+) the thing you need to be aware of is it doesn't have the Play Store on it, Which means a limited choice of apps and customisations.

You can root and install CM10 on it to get the full Play Store, But it isn't guaranteed permanent and requires a little bit of maintenance to keep it going.

The Nook HD+ Can be had for ~£130 for that above reason, Pristine condition.

I've had many tablets from ipads to Samsungs and now I have a couple if nexus 7s (one for me and one for the missus) probably the best tablet I have owned due to the fact the play store just keeps getting better and better. Screen is amazing and the weight and thickness is perfect for long usage.

This pretty much, if you can live without HDMI and micro SD. I don't store anything on my tablet so 8GB is fine with me. The Nexus 7 is the first tablet that I really clicked with. I had a Galaxy 7 before, which was OK but this is brilliant

Right, seems like nexus is on the winning line! I just need to get over my bad choices based on the gadget's design. I've been told by a few people that I'd be better off with the Nexus, and the shop and apps was one of the main arguments. I think I just need to stop in a shop and have a play around with it and find that special connection ;-)

But I probably will go with that one then.

And what kind of case do you use for it? I like to sort out everything at the same time when ordering something :-)

nexus 7 all the way

much more powerful and OS will be auto updated for a few more OS cycles being a nexus

case is on personal preference if you want a front flap or just a protective sides and back thingy. Check out reviews on that popular retailer with a smile on the box

I have my 'shop appointment' today so will go check out the Nexus! I haven't had it in my hands yet but every time I see it online it doesn't seem so big so that's what's been putting me off slightly. Cause if I invest into a tablet I want it to have a good screen. But anyway, I'll see what it's like later today.

Regarding the case, I definitely want soemthing to protect the screen too, that's the most important I think.

Not sure if I'm behind the trend of knowing the retailer with a smile on the box but I have no idea who you're talking about :-)

I use a Poetic but if you have the cash get a Noreve.
