Hi Guys

Thought I'd post a warning about the Nexus 7 and the pattern lock feature.

A friend of mine let his daughter play with his nexus while he was out driving and she inadvertantly entered the wrong pattern lock a number of times.

Now you may be aware that if you do this, you'll be asked for your gmail account and password to verify your account.

The only problem in this instance was that wifi wasn't switched on when it was locked out, and you need to be connected to the net to verify your account.

No matter what we tried we couldn't get into his Nexus, so he was going to bite the bullet and hard reset by holding vol down and power. But after trying this it just gets stuck at the google symbol, there's no android on his back with a red triangle.

Thank god for the internet after a bit of searching found out the Nexus has a bug and it needs to be connected to a pc to do a hard reset.

We sorted it in the end, after a couple of hours scratching our heads lol, but he learned a valuable lesson :)

Is there a way to report stuff like this to Google?

I imagine the easy solution would be to allow you access to the WiFi settings from the validate email address screen.

Yeah you would think so wouldn't you, if anyone knows where to report bugs then please let me know :)

This was 4.1.1 JB, don't know if it's the same for 4.1.2

His daughter must've been very persistent, it has several 30 second lock outs. It's bored several 3 year olds on my N7 many times before! :p (not during a long car journey)

How times can they do this before it prompts you for a gmail account?

Apparently that bit is a bug in 4.1.1 that is fixed in 4.1.2 according to XDA.

I was going to force the upgrade of 4.1.2 and couldn't actually get in to the recovery (power + vol down).

Easily fixed by using Google Nexus Root Toolkit and just downloading and installing the original stock ROM. Well 4.1.1 and then update to 4.1.2 at your own leisure.

Also, keep away from kids ;)

Yeah he's an idiot lol, she's only 3 :)

nice guy though so I don't mind helping him out.

BTW no need to flash 4.1.1 then update just flash straight to 4.1.2 which is now available here:

Can never understand people letting their rug rats 'fiddle' with technology like this!!...

S'pose it comes from the fact I never had any 'shiny' toys like that when I was a kid!! :D

Seeing them at about two start to understand the general touching the screen and stuff happens. Swipe something to unlock.

Then another a little older at the age of 5 fully understanding the use of the this kind of tech. Happy for them to be growing up with it.
