Hi guys

Have the NF7-S V2 and Barton 2500 running on stock settings. Never been overclocked.

Everyday the motherboard will start a beep sequence similar to an old police car (high pitched tone / low pitched tone). This sometimes happens after the pc has been switched on for 20 minutes or sometimes several hours.

Everytime I reboot it runs OK.

Any ideas. Is it the processor or motherboard.

Thanks

Just had some problems of my own with this set up. get hold of a copy of memtest 86 and thoroughly test you RAM I found this to be the source of my problems

linky

I used the bootable ISO

I have just had another thought

You say this problem starts after the machine has been on for a while, I assume that its coming through the speakers.

Do you have the hardware doctor from the motherboard disk installed?

I have found that sometimes I get a sound similar to what you have described but at a very low volume (turning up the sound system lets me her it properly) - do you find windows sounds a lot loader?

I've found that when I open the hardware doctor program the sound stops! I don't know what it is but I've found the hardware doctor for some reason stops it

Thanks for the input. It varies as to when it starts, sometimes just minutes after boot up sometimes 3-4 hours.

Hardware Doctor is not installed and the sound only comes through the onboard speaker, not my 5.1 speakers.

Should i install hardware doctor?

Thanks

Try it and see, it might work, it might not

It fixes the problem for me although the sound comes through the speakers rather than the internal speaker

If it doesn't fix the problem you can always uninstall it.

The only thing I don't like is it loads on startup, but I've disabled this in msconfig

I have installed hardware doctor. It has helped by highlighting the alarm areas

These are

VTT running 0.75. Cant adjust the slide bar under 0.75 so i disabled the alarm
VDDQ running at 0.99. As above cannot adjust above 0.99 so also disabled.

So what do these values indicate to me, as i do not have a clue. I had a quick google and from what i understand it looks like it could be memory.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

OK so i have changed my memory chips. Now have 2 x 512mb chips, brand new and get the same problem.

Anyone to help me please

Thanks

what cpu cooler are you using, i had a similar problem with a k62-400 and a cooler the size of a postage stamp, turned out it was the cpu temperature warning, oh little did i know back then

CPU cooler is the stock one that came with my Barton chip if i recall correctly

It may be a fan stopped/low speed warning? Check your nb fan is spinning properly. There are settings in bios to disable them if reqd.

Had the problem when i upgraded my nb heatsink to a passive one. Board made that noise cos it though fan had stopped!!

If its running too slow that may also trigger the same alarm

Check your cpu temperatures, siren noise on an NF7 as far as i can remember was max cpu temperature exceeded. Might be time clogging up the fans with dust or thermal material dried out or sink come a bit unset.
