I've currently got a NF7-S v2 running a XP Mobile 2400 at 14 x 10 = 1400Mhz. I've also got 2x 256MB PC3200 RAM

Was thinking of upping the CPU and sticking in a 1GB stick of RAM.

I assume extra stick of RAM will cause the current ram to stop running dual channel?

Also what is the fastest CPU i can put in? Heat is an issue. And i don't want to overclock.

thanks

why in gods name do you have your NF7 running that low :o

put it up to at least 200 x 11 !!

i have a mobile 2400 and its running at 220 x 11 so its running at 2420Mhz

if you werent planning on overclocking why did you get a mobile chip?

well i was then instability and heat hit.

Its actually set up exactly how baddass 's site recommends with D26 Mantaray BIOS, L7 Mod, etc.

But to be honest i'm sick of overclocking now. Just want a PC that is guaranteed to boot, and run everything OK.

well, i wouldnt bother buying a new CPU for that system, as you'll be buying a 3200 or something from ebay when we both know that you're chip will do 3200 speeds :)

best bet if you want any better from that system is to buy a 1gb ram kit from the MM or something and selling what you've currently got.

i'm currently upgrading from a similar setup to a spanking conroe system and selling what ive got for £200 to lighten the burden.

do you know whats the max amount of RAM the board will take? Wouldn't mind getting two 1GB stick of RAM. Might try and up the speed a little.

Heat shouldnt be a problem with that chip (assuming its a barton mobile?) What temps were you getting and with what cooler?

What vcore are u running at for 14x100? Should only need 1.55v to do 200x11.

What is the cas of the ram? Some nf2 boards dont like cas3 ram at all. Nothing wrong with that bios either as using it myself

well just tried a simple 18 x 10 at 1.55V, memtested for 5mins fine. wouldn't boot into windows. so lowered it to 15 x 10 @ 1.55V was fine.

MBM says temps are at 53C for CPU and 28C in case.

CPU is quite high.

Is it a barton mobile?

53c is very high for a mobile at 1.55v even with an amd stock cooler on.

Pc3200 ram might not be liking to run at only 100mhz when its meant for 200mhz. Whats the spd of it? If its 2.5-3-3-6 at 200mhz then it will prob run at 2-2-2-11 at only 100mhz. Nforce chipsets prefer 2-2-2-11 any way.

Have you tried the obvious and reseated the hsf plus cleared of any dust?

its got a thermalright copper HS with a 80mm fan. But there is dust. However, its always been about this temp. HIGH!

Fastest I ever got it was like 217 x 10

as for the RAM will the L7 mod not make it run faster>?

well now its 43C under average load, and 36C idle. At same speed and volts.

The RAM timings remain unchanged.
