I've just been talking to a friend who says that i'll have problems using an ati graphics card (x800 gto 16) with a mobo with an nForce 4 chipset (asus a8n-sli SE). Could anyone prove him wrong or agree with him? Will it decrease performance, or not?

Your friend is talking rubbish. X1800XT on an NForce4 here and absolutely no problems. Had an X800XTPE on a NForce 3 board and a 9700Pro and 9800Pro on an Nforce 2 board. Why does your friend think there would be any such problems. Just because ATi and Nvidia are competitors in the graphics market doesnt mean that they will somehow sabotage ATi cards running on a Nvidia chipset motherboard.

I agree with melchy - you'll have no problems whatsoever

Recent PCs I've built have included a Radeon 9800Pro on an nForce 2 and an X550 on an nForce 4

Funnily enough i had more problems with an Nvidia card (6800GT) on my NForce 3 board than i ever had when the X800XTPE was in there. There was a known issue between the 6800 and NForce 3 chipset. Thats actually the main reason i switched to the ATi card when i was still using the NForce 3 board.
