Hi all i have and old Asus M2N32-SLI bored i was waiting for the ati iceq 4870 1 gb when the Nvid 280 went to £230 so got one with a antec 1200 on the way...quesion is will my old bfg 8800 gts 320 be worth using as a PhysX card or is the 280 just going to laugh at it and ignore it lol

That depends on the games you play and whether they support PhysX.

For the small difference PhysX makes it is also worth considering the power consumption of the second card. I personally wouldn't bother.
