NFS: Hot Persuit!!!

Oh and since we're onto correcting people's poor English... :)

Crap. Most Wanted was miles better even with it's insta-pop polices SUV's and rubber band AI.

http://www.gcse.com/english/its_confused.htm (if you learn the difference you will be among a small percentage of the population who know or care, because most evidently don't.)

(it should also be SUVs not SUV's)

Anyone know how to get aa working for all the screen not just the car in this game using nvidia inspector and latest drivers? I can get the car to look ok but the telegraph poles and barriers have jaggies still :( Using 4x aa and multisampling with overide setting in nvidia inspector using the hot pursuit hex code.

Not the answer you want but buy a GTX470/480/570/580 there the only Nvidia cards AA is supported on!

Been playing this a bit. The three major issues I have:

1) Framerate artificially limited to 60fps - anyway to remove this cap?
2) If I try to force AA via nvidia control panel I can't get into a race (edit: GTX470 arriving tomorrow so hopefully the above post is correct!)
3) Ridiculous amount of screens you have to click through to actually play the game - not just the intro screens but also when you start a race there's loads of crap where you have to keep hammering Enter... then you win the race and win some awards and have to sit through yet more rubbish. Really annoying!

This is a bit of a double-whammy; given that I can only have 60fps, I'd like to be able to crank up the graphics to soak up some of my excess GPU power, yet I can't :(

As for the game, the handling seems a bit too easy to me - if there's a sharp bend, rather than slowing down and taking the racing line, it seems all you need to do is brake while turning to throw the back end out and angle your car inwards, and then fire up the nitrous to help you round the bend. Normally you think of NOS as being something to give you a speed boost on straights, but here it seems ironically the real value is when cornering as it lets you take bends much faster than you would be able to otherwise.

Graphically it looks good, real shame about the fps cap though, no doubt built with consoles in mind.

One thing I was a bit surprised as is that you don't seem to be able to get busted? Like when a cop takes you out your car is just reset after a couple of seconds and on you go?

Er AA works i just need the sweet spot settings for multi/supersampling. Dont know why you'd think I need a new card as that has nothing to do with aa and this game.

Hangtime, make sure you have latest nvidia drivers and nvidia inspector latest version 1.9.44 i think it is.

Make a profile using normal way selecting nfshp or whatever it was .exe where you installed it.

Open up nvidia inspector then click the button on it near middle right somewhere which brings you to the profiler customiser part of nvidia inspector. Find the game from drop down box and then tweak the aa compatibility to

Screenies with these settings.

This is a good starting point for aa, and just tweak the settings till you find a good setting.

I agree about the needless pap with menus, almost as bad as shift has. Can skip vids either which is a bummer. The 60fps thing i dont mind not like anyone needs more than 60fps (55fps with aa on for me with above settings). Anything under 50fps is a defo no no for car games tho.

Each time he takes you out, your damage meter on the right of the screen goes down - when it reaches zero you are busted. It also goes down if you hit other objects or crash yourself.

Incidentally when I have tried nvidia inspector and pressed the custom settings button, it gives the error "unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application". I have the latest .NET installed and can run other .NET applications okay.

Googling it seems it doesn't work on XP unless you install .NET framework 2.0 - 3.5 or 4.0 won't work. Hmm. I wonder if nHancer will do the same thing, it should do.

Well the good news with my GTX470 I can now have MSAA with transparency AA disabled, that didn't work on my GTX280 as to get it working I had to enable transparency AA (even with Nvidia Inspector).

Bit shocked at the VRAM usage though, with just 4x AA it is hitting 950MB+

Favourite cars so far are probably the Mclaren MP4-12c and Lamborghini Reventon, both handle well.

Picked this up today and rather enjoyed playing, online mode is great fun, suits me as im not a racing sim fan, i much prefer arcadey nonsense

^^IMO Underground doesn't really have more depth than HP2010... static races, no cops or ability to play as a cop, less track variety, less mature multiplayer etc. OK so you get customisation and drag/drift events but as shallow as HP2010 is, it's not as though Underground was some shining beacon for diversity.

I just tried this on the latest version of nvidia inspector (1.9.5.5) and it does work on my GTS 250 card.

Unfortunately it harms performance and isn't so fluid to play for some reason. Using fraps as a guide, the framerate goes down from 60 without AA to around 40, which SHOULD still be perfectly adequate, but it looks and feels more like 20-30, not smooth at all. Maybe my card just hasn't got enough horsepower to perform AA in this manner, with this game.

Strange one for me. At first I thought it was a load of crap and uninstalled

Then I tried installing again and started playing the career. I got a few races in and started to really like it. The career is great fun and you can skip some of the videos if you want

I havent liked any need for speed since underground 1 and before that need for speed 3. I still think Need for speed 2 SE is the best though. NFS 1 & 2 were fantastic. Before consoles ports started raping the NFS franchise
