Hi all

I'm struggling to create a shared folder on Windows 11 that my iphone 13 can access and export all of my photos to as a backup once a week.

I'm trying to config haneWIN NFS but failing to get it to work and can't find a config guide to help me.

This is my config file

C:\video -readonly 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.4 192.18.1.23
"C:\Users\usr\Documents\NFS Server\New folder" -name:server -maproot:0 -alldirs -range 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.30
"C:\Users\usr\Documents\iPhone SMB share" -name:iphone13backup -w -lowercase -public -alldirs

  • I've tried Photosynch and that sees my laptop but fails to synch.
  • I've tried an SMB folder share and that fails in Windows.
  • I've watched Chris Titus share a folder in Windows 11 but his webpage highlighting how to share a Windows 11 folder isn't working and I can't make out the config.
  • I've tried creating a share in haneWIN with the above config, exporting it, saving it and then restarting the server and that doesn't work.
  • I've searched Reddit and mede8erforum.com
  • I want to try booting up into a Linux image, creating an NFS share, dumping the photos and then moving the photos to my laptops main drive.
  • I may need to do a Windows reinstall
  • Running an HP Elitebook with Windows 11 version 23H2.
Can someone point me in the direction of a guide or reliable app to help me please?

I can't plug my phone into my laptop and backup my images that way as when I do that, the Photos app just reads corrupted images on the iphone even using multiple cables.

Many thanks in advance

Can you not just install and run Windows native NFS?

EDIT: Ignore that, I see that it's just a client and not a server. My bad.

I would however, check your Windows Firewall settings.

I could but I don’t know how to configure it.

I watch a Chris Titus video on the subject and I’ve enabled the NFS system but I don’t know the command to create a shared folder in Windows 11.

Do you have a guide on how to do that?

I looked at one but it was for Windows server and the commands didn’t work.

I’m using Glasswire and it’s on click to block with the application set to full access.

I have disabled the firewall but will try disabling it again.

I've found a solution. It's not amazing but it works. Photosync creates a web interface on port 8080 where you can log in and download all of your images as a .zip file. It's not great but it does mean that I can disable iCloud now.

The Linux effort went down the usual Linux thread due to interdependencies and bugs between applications so I will try that again but for now, it's not working. The Windows Photos app has a bug that a lot of people are complaining about and the solution, apparently, is to charge your phone to 100%. That didn't work for me.

I do think I'll need to do a reinstall sometime to get all of these issues resolved but that's future Jolly's problem and screw that guy.
