big into my racing games / sims

Ben

yea definitely ! its the best looking racing game so far and it plays pretty good and has some really nice real world tracks.

you can get some mods if you want it to be sim like with realistic tyre behaviour and altered AI etc.

its easily one of the best pc racing games of the last 10 years imo and it has rather a lot of content

Agreed.....

best circuit racing game ever made, amazing fun with x360pad or a wheel

I just wish someone would take its engine and incar views and effects etc and built Hot Pursuit game around that.

If you really are into your sims then I'm not sure if it is for you.

The tracks are lovingly crafted, it looks a treat but there are just better games when it comes to physics. I tried the physics mods, I don't know if they didn't install or I got the wrong ones or something, but it still wasn't what I wanted as a sim racer. Just a fair warning.

Here's a different opinion. It's one of the worst driving games ever made and I'm not even exaggerating. I prefer sim racing (most notably iRacing but everything from rFactor mods to Simbin titles) and the occasional arcade games that have good handling ie. Forza 3, NFS: Porsche, Trackmania etc. Shift is one of those games you either love or hate with passion. I think it's simply an abomination. I can't imagine a human being made up the (tire) physics and the utterly stupid camera effects. I've given it few more attempts with mods but none of them have even begun to fix the problems in that game.

But as you might have noticed, most people do like it. A lot.

Definitely worth £7.50, just make sure you turn of brake and sterring assist as they can be abit silly. Feels like the computer is driving for you

Unpack the game and use the realistic physics and damage mod and the overhaul mod...turn off all assists and set it to pro handling..oh and use a G25/27 and manual gears.

Wow, harsh!! Surprised you can hate it with such a passion. Think it's a damn fine effort myself. The tyre physics can be messed with if they're so offensive as can the blur and stuff.
What is it about the physics that makes you so upset?

fantastic game, sure it's not the perfect blend of sim/arcade but it's damn good fun and rewarding.

I went back to try a few laps on this the other day and it made me realise how dissapointing F1 2010 really is :( ..

well worth £7

yea i had a blast on shift again a few days ago and i was amazed at how good it still looks...

f1 2010 just looks horrible in comparrison, i'd be happy with another NFS game on the same engine , i think a different company is making the hot pursuit game though?

hopefully we get a shift 2 it was a massssssiiiiivvvvvveeee improvement over er... lol i cant evem remember what it was called it was so crap

The constant sliding whenever you even touch the wheel. I haven't seen a mod that actually fixes it. Most mods promise to fix it but it still remains, annoying as ever.

Shift remains the most unrealistic (modern) racing game in my books. The visuals are decent as long as you disable blur and the camera effects but the trackside objects are a laugh. Hundreds of circus tents on every track.

theres a mod to remove the circuit clutter and you probably never installed the handling fix mod properly.

did you actually unpack the game?

I don't get that problem with sliding & i play with all assists off except for anti-locking brakes & was world number 1 in 2 events using a 360 pad.

I'm closer to agreeing with you than anyone else in this thread. I really don't like the ridiculous handling this game has. With a 360 pad or wheel it's just totally unrealistic and in no way fun. In my opinion it fails massively at being a sim, but at the same time also fails horribly at being a fun pick up and play arcade game. It sits in a uninteresting and frustrating middle ground, coupled with the stupid handling and irritating bulk (videos, points/stars etc) there's nowhere near enough to keep me interested for more than a couple of plays.

Now with mods, it may improve, but it's too far off to ever be a good game. I'd keep your £7.50 and spend it on any number of better titles. You can pick up Race07 for that sort of money I would have thought, or Burnout Paradise. Both do what they're supposed to brilliantly.
