NFSU-2 : Improving cornering?

Ok, Im not that much of a car racer game fan to be honest, but the kids have got NFSU2 on the XBOX and so I got it for my PC... I am actually enjoying it a fair bit to be honest, but I have come up to a kind of stalling point.

The car I have built up is a great thing, very much based on my own car, but using Hyundai instead of Lada... Seriously though...

Cornering.

Its fine on the road and in the main road-races, and I have the handling down to a tea I recon, thats not the problem as such...

What is the problem, is on the tight tracks, I simply cannot possibly corner well enough without slowing down.

Complete oversteer is all I am getting... Even if I do manage to pass the other cars, as soon as a tight corner comes up, I hit the far wall, or I slow down too much and they pass me...

I have tried and tried to use the handbrake, but again, too much slowdowns.

I have not yet managed to get at the tyres or the brakes, and Im sure that the tyres are whats missing due to the ammount of sliding it does, but then they are perfect for the open road... How can I cure this?

Or, do I need to re-tune the car for each and every race type?

Anyone offer me any clues?

I found not much trouble turning corners, even those 90 bends.

Just leg it too you're about 2 to 3 car length from the bend, jam the brakes (not the handbrakes!) down and drop a gear (if you're a manual) turn into it for a split second before accelerating. I usually have the gears between 2 to 3, depending on how fast I was. All based on feeling.

You will have to slow down but turning around corners is about how smooth the transaction is followed by acceleration, not speed around and oversteer.

Hope you've understood my explanation.

BTW, play NFS: Most Wanted, so so so much more fun than NFS:U2, just for the Police chases :)
 
best thing about racing games is, on corners if you know your not going to make it, I'd line myself up with one of the computers cars and use it as a cushion going round, it doesnt work so well in NFSU since they simply crash, but you get the idea :p

most annoying thing I found about NFSU is you'd be winning say a 3lap or woteva race and coming up to the last 100ish M from the finish line a big van would fly over the road and end it all, funny how the NPC cars never had that problem :(

That's corrected on NFS:MW, I've on a couple of occasion won the race because my blacklist opponent was silly enough to corner into a vehicle. Once was a van with some dish on top and the other was into a smallish car. :D Was a moment to chuckle and cross the finish line with a smile.

yeah, I think its about #9 the guy with a cayman, anyway I just couldnt beat him in the drag race, I just kept playing untill he hit something and won the pink slip :p
 
Ah, got hold of a Supra today... Immediately took it out got NO2 and Turboi etc etc, suspension and engine all done up and what have you, but the tyres I have still not been able to find a way to get them on.

Now, my biggest problem is having to learn how that handles cos its a case of simply spinning all over the place... I have only just realised the day before yesterday actually, that when the phone seems to go, a car is also flashing at me, and if I press return, I am accepting a challenge... Well, in the Hyundai that I mainly use, I dont lose a race in that on the streets of the motorway bit, but this supra, I crash withing a few hundred yards due to there being too much power, seemingly for such naff tyres.

I cannot for the life of me use a joypad due to my left thumb being knackered, so its keyboard only for me, and this alos means full throttle, or no throttle and I sometimes think that having just a little more control might be useful.

got a good half way though, that I think Icould do with a few tweaks to, and thats a Maxda... Erm, matika or whatever its called? - Not won any of those StreetX races with it yet, but come friggin close a few times... Once I was in first place, but lost it on the last bend, and I was almost in tears... Its pathetic.
 
SERIOUS PROBLEM - REALLY NEED HELP ON THIS ONE

Ok, I have goen through the entire thing now... I have doen the whole of Jackson heights, all of today, I have been running around the entire city, and I have found NOTHING... Apart from general traffic of course, but no races and no other racers.

I checked my messages, and I found one that says that that girl wants her car back??? - I dont have her car? - these are my own built up.

Anyway, a fair while later, I gave up my Supra... ( Fastest for drag ) and then nothign happened, so, a while later, I gave up my baby MX5 - ( Perfect for everythign except drag ) and then after about another hour of failing to find anything, I gave up my A3.

So, now I am left with stock cars

I found an extra feature in the game "F4" that lets me see my career stats and I find that there are 2 shops I missed in Jackson heights, so I went there, never found a shop as such, but I have found a Drag race.

Now, my problem is this...

My car does not even get into second gear and the others have all gone?

The car I am in is stock and I am tryign to race these, and its absolutely impossible.

Have I completely buggered myself up or is there some bug I have come across in the game?

Why did she ask for the car back when I dont have it?

Why is there no more cars on the road?

Why have I just spent my well earned 16K on only one race knowing that its impossible to win?

I am now trying to cheat as I am on my last few quid by canceling the race, and I have had several races where the oncoming traffic hits the other racers, and twice I have managed to sneak through, but I think I have had 40 or so races and maybe 10 times I have managed this, but each of those times, even though I am flat out and in first place, one of the other cars, shoots past me doing way quicker than I am.

Unless I fluke and all the others get totalled its not going to happen.

My kids have been helping me out cos we have been at it all day today and even they are sick of the game.

What can I do?
 
Most of the races you can just floor it and bounce of the walls without too much trouble

As regards StreetX, I found them arguably the hardest race type in the game. Some of them have really nasty hairpins lined up where you have to time your braking perfectly or the AI cars will catch/pass you.
 
Aint that the truth!

My kids just love doing somethign better than I, so when it gets too much, I let them on it... The deal being, that if they win a race, they can blow that money x2 on the car... The kids love this idea, and it works for us all now.

Unfortunately, I have reinstalled *** game and lost all my career info now... Whats even more annoying, is that I renamed the original folder, installed to a new folder, and moved everyhtign over from the old install, but the info was still gone... I think its the registry perhaps that holds the career info??

Anyway, I now have a toyota Celica and its fairly fast, but I dont htink it knows what corners are cos its useless at handling, and of course, useless for streetx but hey... Thats what the kids are for eh?
 
Yeah, the kids have seen the ads for carbon, and so they must come first I suppose

To be honest, I cant use those JoyPads anymore because of my thumb, and this means that I need to have a keyboard really to play anything, plus have you seen the difference between the quality of the graphics on the XBOX and the PC? - the XBOX is a frigging shambles in comparison.
 
Hmmm.

A New game and that problem came back again... Earlier this time.

I still got loads of races etc showing up, so I am going to continue on that.

However, I have also realised that I can do 3 races with that womans car also, so, I am doing those races and that way I will be forced to get the SMS off her early in the game, and then, if that problem comes back for a second time, then I know that there is a problem???

Also, this morning had a rummage through my XBOX Games and found Most Wanted... Its a bit scratched but it plays long enough to see... Similar in ways to U2 I suppose, but more video rather than screenshots, so I have gone to the bay and got it on the PC.

So far, its a bit poo, I got to tace that rsole guy and lost and got my car ounded etc and now on a Golf GTI and I have doen one race with the #15 guy so gettign into it, but this does not cure the U2 problem does it?

Weird.
