I wanted to know from any NH-D15 owners out there that are running the dual fan configuration, what you find fits with this monster.

All I can easily establish is either Corsair Vengeance LP DIMMs or Crucial Ballistix Tactical LP.

I know the thing is huge and plenty of people suggest I go for an AIO but I like to keep it simple.

Thanks

Pretty sure the NH-D15 is
  • 47mm from CPU to bottom of lower fins.
  • 64mm from CPU to bottom of upper fins.
  • 8mm from CPU to motherboard.
  • 3mm to RAM height is total height of RAM above motherboard.
  • From center of CPU to notch in fins is 47.5mm

Hope that helps

I think NH-D15 is from those coolers that actually work really well with just one fan and reviews prove it. If you are willing to sacrifice 2-3 degrees, you can get any memory you want. If you have enough space from the cooler to the side panel, you can easily mount the second fan just above the memory or install the fans in pull-pull configuration if you are going to run in on a system different than LGA2011. If your case supports 170mm coolers, I would recommend you to also consider the single tower beasts - Thermalright TRUE Spirit 140 Power and Thermalright Archon SB-E X2 as they will perform very similarly to the Noctua but have full memory height support with 2 fans.
P.S. I know some antivirus programs (like my Bitdefender free started doing recently) catch the website from my link as malware, though it is not. I've known the owner for about 5-6 years now, he is a part of the HardwareBG community for the past 10 years, and assure you it is free from any viruses. On the contrary the content there offers an unbiased view towards the world of air and AIO cooling and has a very neat and extensive fan catalogue so please, surf with confidence!

Have just recently installed the NH-U14S Ultra-Quiet Slim CPU Cooler with single NF-A15 Fan and find it excellent. CPU is 4930 and it idles when web browsing and playing music at around 28C. Fan speed is around 550rpm so essentially silent. I only have it overclocked to 4.0MHz but at that it gets up to 55C when I have run prime. Fan speed goes up to 880rpm only at that temp. It does not get in the way of memory modules but then again I have the Samsung greens so it would not be a problem anyway.

A little bit offtopic but this is a rather aggressive profile, my TRUE Spirit 140 goes above 900RPM on its fans above 80 degrees and by 90 is on 100%.

Seriously?
880rpm @ 55c is aggressive?
70-75c is as hot as I want to see CPU running. 80-90c is simply too hot / aggressive for me. :D
My 980 and 920 idle mid-upper 20s @ 600-700rpm and run 45-50c @ 900-1050rpm. Can't hear the fans until they reach 950-1000rpm. That's under Silver Arrow SB-E, Silver Arrow IB-E, PH-TC14PE, Cryorig R1 Ultimate, TRUE Spirit 140 Power, Cogage Arrow or Macho HR-02. HR-02 is warmest.

I'm sorry, when I write posts early in the morning I miss things sometimes. This time I've missed you're running Nahalem-s. :) I am super picky about fans myself and about 800RPM for 140mm I start definitely hearing them so in idle and moderate loads I want the system to be below that. :) 90 degrees are achieved only under stress testing, normal load never gets over 80, but this is Ivy Bridge.

Very sensitive ears.. and assume computer is close in very quiet room too. ;)

Edit:
Curiosity; is it actual fan noise or air movement noise through vents, cooler fins, etc. you hear?

It's motor noise and air vortices while hitting intake or exhaust mesh. If you hear the fan spin on its own it's going to be a lot quieter. The case is right next to me and even though the room is not that quiet (big Edinburgh street located next to a hospital and a fire station :D, next to one of the biggest junctions in the city centre), at night it is definitely audible even at <700RPM of the fans at distances of up to 3-5m. This is very subjective though as my flatmates do not notice the PCs at all. :)

I am really sorry for the offtopic.
