Is anyone looking forward to this at all? I played NHL 95 on the Mega Drive when I was younger, and then played some NHL 13 just before moving out to Vancouver earlier this year. Now that I'm hooked on hockey (even though the Canucks did terribly in the playoffs this year) I am really excited about NHL 14, particularly as the changes they're making are looking really good to me.

They've got Collision Physics (like FIFA's Impact Engine) which should make hits better (they were not very satisfying in NHL 13):

Fighting looks much improved (they were very samey and boring in NHL 13):

And here is another video about one touch dekes:

It's due for release on 10th September in North America and 13th September in Europe.

NHL is my favourite EA franchise, the overall production quality is superb and the game is genuinely improved year on year. It's a shame that I could never find a decent NHL club to join though as almost everyone who plays this is based in Canada or the States. Thought there would be more Scandinavians interested but online I always came across people in North America. :(

Might get 14 though as I haven't played online since NHL 11, maybe the netcode is better now.

Now that I'm in Canada it's definitely given me more reason to play it as I know there will be more people to play online, having said that, even in the UK I didn't have too much trouble finding people on NHL 13, although whether they were also in Europe I'm not 100% sure.

I agree though, presentation of the game itself is really nice!

I don't remember having trouble finding games, but there was always input lag whenever I played a North American opponent which is a bitch in a game like this. Also, probably the best/most fluid commentary in a game I've heard. :D

The demo is out, and it's pretty good. The new impact engine, or whatever it's call, makes hits really satisfying. I love it.

The fighting is a bit disappointing, it's a huge improvement, but it still feels like you don't have much control over what your guy is doing. Maybe I just haven't worked it out yet.

All in all though, I like it, and if it wasn't for GTA V, I'd probably get it on release. I may wait a while though, depending on whether I cave or not (I probably will)

EDIT: I've played a bit more now and the fighting isn't as bad as I thought. Still not as much variety in the fights as I was hoping, but it's a lot better than 13.

Stuck my order in yesterday so should be arriving on release tomorrow :)

I gave 13 a miss so have been playing 12 until now but getting all psyched up for the upcoming season so thought may as well get it :)

Painful waiting for the new season to start though, hurry up already!

One of my favourite ever games on the original Xbox was NHL Rivals, it was awesome and I played the crap out of it. Even got to like rank 4th on the worldwide leaderboards :D Not really tried one since, I think I'll give the demo a go later tonight.

I've played this quite a bit over the past week or so and I really like it. I'm only really playing Hockey Ultimate Team, which can be frustrating.

I have some great games where it's close, and it's quite evenly matched so it's exciting and whether I win or lose I have fun. Then sometimes I play someone and no matter what I do I cannot get the puck off them, I cannot get around their defense, and even if I do get an opening their goalie makes an incredible save.

I played someone last night and lost 7-1, he had Daniel Sedin in his team and he basically just passed to him, then skated around my whole team and scored, I couldn't get the puck off him for love nor money!

My last game before bed last night was awesome though, I was 1-0 down, then tied 1-1 in the 2nd period. Then right at the end of the 3rd I got a chance, took a shoot, the keeper saved it but it just went by him and went over the line with 0.6 seconds left. The other guy must have been gutted!

The hits are brutal as well! A bit over the top as you don't see that many big hits in real hockey, but I love it, it's so satisfying.

Anyway, I need to get better at defending, and I'm pretty poor at taking it past more than 1 defender, but I am getting better at playing it around the offensive zone and finding gaps to get a shot it, but more often than not they're getting saved/blocked.

You might not see many big hits watching the Canucks because they're a bunch of pussies. :p

Hopefully I'll get this for my birthday, I could only afford one game myself this month and it was between this and GTA so...

Hockey ultimate team is stupidly addictive, don't think I'll ever win enough games or be able to spend enough time on it to really get a good squad together.

If anyone's got some players they don't mind letting go cheap let me know ;)

Anyone still playing this?

As above, I'd never touched the ultimate team stuff before this release and it's as bad as crack, the ios app is pretty handy for trading players around.

Got a decent squad together now, no huge players but enough good ones to have fun :)

Did use some pucks on a holiday promo pack today and pulled a team of the week Phil Kessel which I'm going to try and sell on. I figure the amount of pucks I should get for him (over 300k) I can go and complete the majority of the NHL team collections for and pickup all the collection bonuses on the way, possibly making a few more pucks selling the players on.

I play quite a lot, I haven't touched HUT at all and I don't think I'm going to, I don't want to end up spending silly amounts on packs which is what would inevitably happen! Been playing Be a GM mode quite a lot. :)

I've resisted spending cash, got lucky on a few packs which have got me a couple of 50k players (well they were at the time), which I was able to sell to start building up a team of players I like as well as getting some collections done to claim the bonus :)

I think Semin or St Louis have been my biggest purchases so not exactly an expensive team puck wise.

I've played less since GTA V and BF4 came out, but I do still play. Fortunately I am doing a bit better online now as well. I've played around 100 games in HUT and have a pretty decent team now. I made most of my coins from getting lucky in packs, and also from collecting full teams in order to get the puck bonus, before selling them on again.

I've got pretty much all of the Canucks apart from the Sedins and Corrado. I've got some other decent players too, and about 70k pucks in the bank.

Just working on Carolina collection now, only got Cam Ward to go but need to raise a few more pucks for him. Might sell a couple of players, buy him, then rebuy them after :)

Pulled Getzlaf from a pack the other day but was running low on pucks so didn't have enough to get Perry then go for the set :(

Nope I'm ps3.

Woke up to find my Kessler sold for 380k so I'll just spend some time getting most of the collections bought and sold for the bonuses. Got about 90k sat in Carolina at the moment, just need to pickup cam ward today to complete then I'll sell them all off apart from Semin as been using him a lot.

Don't like to hold on to the high value cards too long when doing collections in case they drop a lot.

Finished Carolina today and sold off the big players already, all for profit too.

Keep reading that when they run the promo packs on weekends prices dip due to increase in supply so happy to have not lots money on the players, although I did manage to get Eric Staal pretty cheap so that was some easy pucks.

Think I might try Anaheim next, there's only a few teams that won't be possible as the super stars are just too much (Chicago, Pens, Tampa and Caps).
