I'm a bit underwhelmed by the performance of my (supposedly) 200Mbps powerline kit, which seems to be a bit of a bottleneck for my 50meg Virgin.

Currently, my networking arrangements look something like this;

Would I see any benefit in configuring the router as a wireless repeater coupled with the powerline?

The other option is NIC teaming thusly;

Does teaming work if the 2 NICs have different connection speeds? Also, if anyone is in need of an artist..... I'm available ;)

I hate the lack of ethernet in my new flat. Shouldda stayed at home with the folks :(

I would guess that theres a lot of electrical interference dropping the speed? If you can get the hub and router talking over wireless N you could get a better speed.

Although I would try an Ethernet connection first to make sure its not VM :)

I'm 99.99% sure that neither of the proposed network configurations would even work. They certainly wouldn't provide any sort of speed increase.

What is the 'hub' in the diagrams? Is it just a Virgin cable modem, or is one of their Super Hubs? If it is a Super Hub, why is there another router in use?

If you can supply the make, model and version of all the equipment in use we'd be in a better position to help.

Will not work, for teaming you need to look at 802.11ad which will not be supported by anything you have (except maybe your computer).

My first comment would be don't rely on a single servers speedtest - try and few.
If I test at home on London I get 50Mb+, if I test Gloucester I'm luck to get 10Mb.

Look at these for example:
