Nice Article on upgrading Nehalem MacPro CPUs

There is a nice article on the MacPro and upgrading the CPU's over at Anandtech (see: http://www.anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=3597&p=1).

Whilst attempting to upgrade the reviewer managed to bend CPU socket pins requiring a new Motherboard as well as the processors. Would have been cheaper to buy the higher spec from the start...

I was thinking that I would buy and sell the W3520 Quad I have here for the 3.2Ghz one in a few years.

But by then I might think sod it and buy a new MP!

Yes, just be careful when screwing the heatsinks back to the board. Not enough tension, poor contact excessive heat, machine turns off. Too much tension and you mash the socket on a 2.5k machine eek:

I don't think I'd attempt the upgrade...
