Nice clothes for men?

Ever since I was a teenager I've been wearing jeans, a hoodie and a T-shirt and I think it is about to time to wear something a bit different seeing as I am getting a bit old to be wearing that type of clothing.

But having said that I know nothing about fashion. I've always like wearing suits but obviously can't do that everyday. So I'm looking for some advice from the forum regarding what an early thirties man should be wearing these days?

I'm between 15 and 16 stone so I'm quite fat so bear that in mind. Any help would be really appreciated as I honestly have no idea what I am doing.

Thanks for any replies :).

To old to wear jeans?

I don't like wearing hoodies anymore, instead a shirt and a nice thick jumper depending on the weather.

Well it was more the hoodies rather than the jeans. I don't mind wearing a decent pair of jeans. Just need to find something to replace the hoodies really.

Sounds like some kind Jacket/Blazer with Jeans, and either shirt or t-shirt would suit what you like:

That looks cool. I'll look into that style a bit more.

Jeans can be fairly smart - I usually pair up with a long sleeve t-shirt or reasonably formal shirt these days and knitwear in the winter. Foortwear will make a big difference to the overall look as well.

I personally wear what I want. Never am I going to say 'I'm X age I shouldn't be wearing X in my own time'

I'm in my early 50's and I still wear hoodies and jeans , trainers/boots , partly because a lot of jumpers seem to always have realy wide necks as do sweat shirts too and plus I'm not a shirt person , plus the fact that I have to get either XXL, XL depending on what I'm buying, I got a coat a while back 44" chest and i can barely do it up and if I get a 46" chest the arms are too long and looks silly , and also for some reason my feel have got longer I have to get size 9's now even though I have always been an 8 lol

it's basically what Jeremy Clarkson wears, that may or may not be a good thing

if you're in your 30s though perhaps something more akin to Hammond's wardrobe than Jeremy's would be preferable

(edit - probs should clarify that I am being slightly silly here... though I guess they're actually quite a reasonable reflection of how lots of middle aged+ British guys dress)

The northern gent always has some good ideas on instagram.

But tennis shoes/boots, jeans, plain t-shirt/shirt/polo you can't go much wrong.

Also good fitted chinos. Plain jumpers too look great.

Basically drop the teen stuff, and no logos.

The key is to find something that fits you, Levis jeans fit my legs well and Ralph Lauren polos and shirts are a good fit for my top half. Zara is pretty good for tops for me too but a mate of mine cant get away with either as he has girl shoulders :p Just got to experiment really but nowt wrong with jeans, just smarten them up with brown shoes or boots.

Surely this depends on OP style?

I often wear smart casual shirts with sleeves rolled to the elbows and chinos or smart jeans when i am out and about.

If i am going to the pub or a gig, then its usually T-shirt jeans and leather jacket combinations.

For work i wear either three piece suits, double cuffed shirts with sleeve bands and ties or matching Chino-shirt (button cuff) combos with blue or grey tweed waistcoats. Either a grey overcoat or an oversized camel overcoat with brown wool lapels.

The above combos get paired with distressed military style boots (essentially 'adventurer boots'), black leather shoes, winkle-picker boots, brown leather boots and tanned leather boots.

When i go fishing i dress like those knobs you see in the summer in full camo gear :p

Hint for trousers.

I'm about the same weight as you and I find that I get trousers at the right waist size that they are too narrow in the thighs. So I bought straight legged old fashion cut trousers and there was so much extra fabric at my ankles. Pinned the trousers at the bottom where I liked them, sent them to the local cheap tailors in my town and had them made to my shape for £7. They are the best and most comfortable pair of trousers I've ever worn. So I'd say if you struggle to get clothes that fit properly, just get them slightly too large. Wear them, get a friend or someone to pin them relatively symmetrically. And then take them to a local tailor who will chop them down cheaply.

Have a look at Thread.com ? I guess the problem is that a lot of stuff you see online is going to be shown on slimmer models and at the end of the day will look a lot different on you. That's not a comment on your weight but a reality. Every guy will have the same thing, to a degree.

At the end of the day though, it's probably just the hoodie that you could lose. Some guys can look impeccable in a pair of brown boots, well-fitted jeans and a plain tshirt. It's about knowing what suits you and wearing it well.

When I hit 30 I went through a stage of thinking I had to wear a shirt every day. But you know what, it's just not true.

Im fat so nothing fits me properly.
I am sticking with my T-shirts and jeans for now.

Oh and I am ALWAYS too hot so hoodies/jumpers/knitwear just make me sweat.

so its even more difficult for me because I am pretty much confined to single layers
