Had a rather pleasant day out in OCUK country yesterday.
My Mum moved back to the area she grew up in earlier this year and we ventured up north to visit her.
First stop after a quick 'Google' was Castle Oatcakes in Newcastle, a lot of folks waiting for freshly made filled Oatcakes, we picked up a dozen and had some for supper when we got home, very nice, much better than the supermarket ones. My other half is now infatuated with them, so I'll have to ration them out.
My Mum wanted to go to Westport Lake so off we popped for a pleasant stroll around the lake and small Nature Reserve, after the stroll we had a snack at the visitor centre, the other half enjoyed a couple of Oatcakes!! (I think there may be lots of visits to the toilet today!)
I found it quite interesting that the old china factories are still derelict, one half of me likes to preserve the past and is pleased these industrial sites have been left untouched and ungentrified, the other half thinks it is a waste of space, either way, I shall visit in the winter and take some Black and White film photos of some of these factories including the abandoned teapot factory.
Anyway, after visiting a few of my Mums old haunts we enjoyed a cup of tea before heading off down the M6.
A jolly nice day.
It's still grim up north but not as grim as it used to be.
