Hi all

Getting a bit tight in our 2018 captur, and it's completely gutless for our family if 4.

Thinking of upgrading to something with more space/style and umph... If possible.

Hopefully get approx £5-6k for our captur.

So what's our best bet? Quite like Mazda CX5s but not sure if there's better options.

As new/less milage as possible, but we don't do loads ourselves.

Petrol/manual but she could be swayed to auto

Thanks all

inb4 everyone tells you to get a big estate instead of an SUV

Skoda Superb etc.
Yeah sorry not estate people :D

She's barely excited about something bigger than a captur but needs to be done now.

I have my own car for in the week but when we are all together going out at weekends etc, it's getting a bit small/sluggish. Think it's only a 1l

Not a Kona, very tight rear seat space. Go with a Niro hybrid for the space, or a slightly bigger Sportage if you can live with the extra mileage.

Seat Ateca is another good shout.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far.

I'd say electric is of little interest to us at this stage, but appreciate the suggestions

Do like the look of the Kona, Tucson or CX5 so far. £12k max is limiting us for year and mileage on food specced models but see some cx5s with 60kish miles, that would be fine I'm sure

Also she likes Peugeot 3008s but I don't think they compare to any of the above?

That said it is mostly her that will be using it Mon to Fri at least. So have to settle on a compromise somewhere but I don't think a Peugeot is it? Unless these are decent

A local dealer has a Qashqai, 3008, Troc and a few others in stock so going to go down and attempt to sit in a few (even though some at this dealer are way out of budget, just gives us a chance to see them all side by side)

I've certainly suggest you get to sit in the back. The 3008 is a great car if there's two of you or smaller minions in the back but once they get longer legs the sitting position is less than attractive. I own one and I'm happy with it but there are a few compromises. The 3008 has more boot space with the seats down than the Ford Focus Mk2 hatch with the seats down and a large roof box due to it being a taller car.
The engine was a compromise initially in the 3008. The old focus 1.8tdci seemed to pull regardless of hill, and be happy on long distances (I did a 10hour each way to the bottom of France in it - fully loaded). The 3008 1.6 diesel is ok, but lacks top end grunt when fully loaded (ie three adults in the back, luggage and roof box) and it starts loosing it going up hits at 130km/h in France. I fed back to Peugeot that it needed 30nm/hp more, and an additional gear, and the newer 1.6D automatics ended up with 30nm/hp more and an additional gear. So it wasn't just my observation. I steered clear of all the 1.2l engines.

I looked at the CX-5 in 2016/7 and what you got for your money seemed a little limited. The car is nice and the larger engines seem ok. It seems more of a driver's car.
