For those that are fan of Nier Automata and never played the previous title(like me), we can finally play it in glorious remastered package on PS4/Xbox and PC. =)
Hopefully there won't be any issues with optimisation on PC..

Anybody waiting on their key coming through for a day 1 play of Nier Replicant? Loved Automata so looking forward to this tomorrow...

Not sure if I'll be getting it day one as I have 2-3 titles in my backlog and would like to go back to Automata beforehand but I'll definitely grab this pretty soon.

Automata was a great game with a great OST, not sure I dig all the ost changes to this one but I'm sure the soundtrack will still blow most others out of the water, like Automata's did:

EDIT: ALL RIGHT, THE OST WILL ******* OBLITERATE:D

Played the first hour and a half just now. Same charming atmosphere and smooth combat like Automata. No ultrawide resolution support it seems though which is a little disappointing. Noticed some odd performance and GPU utilisation though. I'm playing at 1440p with my 6900XT. At the default clocks I'm getting between 59 and 71 FPS with up to 64% GPU utilisation however when I apply my usual overclock I'm locked at 75 FPS (the max refresh of my monitor) with only 15% GPU utilisation. There is no v-sync option in the game menu and I haven't tried to remove if via the driver software yet but it does suggest I'm getting an unusually large increase in performance. I'm thinking it possibly down to the higher memory clock or switching to fast memory timings. I'll have a play tomorrow and see if I can understand what is going on. It's not a problem at all as the game feels silky smooth either way, it's just a bit curious...

Which one should I play first? This or Nier Automata?

I'd go with Replicant first.

Automata takes place literally thousands of years later and some events in it will be more powerful if you know Replicant.

That's one reason.

The second one is that Replicant is still an 11-year old game at heart with touched-up graphics and reworked combat but all of its sticking points are still there. The sidequests are mostly tedious fetch quests that Taro outright trolls the player with, even Weiss constanty ****s on you for accepting them (which is quite funny, TBH). It is somewhat justified by the storyline but still. There's some world building to them, also in the form of banter between Nier and Weiss, so some are worth doing (a few important ones). On top of that, the game does its best to make it seem like a pretty standard affair for some time until it slowly starts to pull the rug from under your feet. Also, the difficulty balance is just bad.

Automata was in many ways the most significant game last gen and it really improved upon the framework laid out by Replicant. It also gets going quicker. Other things like actual storyline, characters and soundtrack (both are among the best ever) is up to debate but gameplay, overall refinement, sidequests etc. I'd all give to Automata. It also pulls off the trademark Nier story structure more gracefully.

Replicant is undoubtedly a special game but it's also weird, convoluted (not like Automata isn't ofc) and can get tedious. It ****** me off sometimes but I really like it at the same time:p No instant gratification with this one, I'm afraid but the reward is there.

Replicant-->Automata makes most sense IMO, both in terms of storyline and enjoyment.
