I may be getting a new job soonish and i got the option of going onto nights. Ive never done nights before but im sort of tempted. Or i could do afternoons which i currently do in my current job which i prefer to mornings. Im sure after the first few days i could get used to the sleep pattern. But whats the pros and cons of night shift?

Also if i do afternoons ill be on £19-20k but nights is £23k.

Great advice on here cheers. Im still not sure even though theres a chance of illness and death so still thinking about it.
Its only nights not rota shift work so ill be just doing nights if i wish. 9 hour shifts i think aswell.
I do look after myself as i go gym (its my church) and eat healthy.
Quiet neighbourhood and considerete grandparents.
Want to spend less anyway so i can save up for a motorbike trip to america on route 66:cool: oh and a deposit on house.

It does also depend on your commitments, if you don't really have any (no partner/kids, etc), then go for it, the extra money can be put away for the future. And if you can't do it, you could always try going back to the days.

I have no commitments and i really want more money as i said in a earlier post for my holidays and a deposit on a house one day. Also my spending will be cut down even though im not a big bender anyway.
It will take me a couple days to adjust first of all even maybe nearly a week to get used to the sleep pattern.

It depends entirely on what the job is.

What's the job?

Warehouse job, so a pretty physical job so im sure time will go quick. Ive worked in my current warehouse for 6 years so know what to expect.

Ive talked to people on nights at my current job and they like it. One of my mates says he finishes at 6:30am goes gym straight afterwards (which i would do) and is in bed for about 8:30am and gets up about 1-3pm. Then he aint back in work till 10:30pm which is quite nice.

But what i dont get is them trying to get back into a normal sleep pattern when they have a weekend off, wont that mess with you?

Thanks for all the info i have decided to do Afternoons instead. With all the health risk and potential lesser years on the clock. Also i think i would be a better worker on afternoons and would be more inclined to do more overtime meaning i could end up getting to the nightshift wage and more even.

I'd rather do nights than afternoons.. Hate afters!

I currently do 1 week morns (6am to 2pm) then next week afters (2pm to 10pm.. You just can't do anything on afternoons :(

I disagree i go to the gym and then i go out on my motorbike for a couple hours and then have tea at home then off to work for 2:30pm all cheery:D

Well i have been offered the job, and it is night work. Its a 9hr shifts 5 night week. The shifts start at 6pm-3am, and its a rolling week so i will end up working saturdays and sundays but i get a 20% bonus. I will be on a wage of 23k which is a nice jump from my current wage of 12-14k:D

That's a pretty good shift, not true night work, would love such a shift. 3am is the hitting the wall stage and you still have plenty of time to get home and fall asleep in the dark, which makes a huge difference.

Is it sun-fri or mon-sat
If it's mon-sat, then your social life is ruined.

Its a rolling week so will end up working saturday and sunday but not all the time.

6pm-3am aint bad really like you said. By the time i get home and in bed it will be about 4am. Get 6-7hrs sleep so up about 12ish, then go gym maybe a bit of motorbiking and still have a few hours to kill.

Well i finished my induction and training yesturday which started tuesday. This was during the day at 8am-5pm, and i got my rota. Im starting sunday (tomorrow) and i got the times wrong its actually 8:30pm-5:45am.
I think that time time is better for me, as i can get home have a quick munch then go gym and then straight to bed when i get back.

Most people on here hate it then:p Im off in about 30 mins for my first night shift. I ride to work on my motorbike, im sure thats gonna be fun at the end of my shift...anyway god speed.

Well it went very well, for some reason the shift went very quick. So quick in fact i was nearly two hours late for break:p
I was in bed for about 6:20am woke up at 10ish but went straight back to sleep and finally got up at nearly 2.
