Just interested, really. I rotate on and off a nightshift which is midnight-8am. Problem being our workload is so completely changeable, sometimes I could finish early and go, other times people would attempt to get me to stay all sort of hours through the morning. I've once done midnight - 1pm which was rather horrid.

Is working so late into the morning on a nightshift weird? We're busy at the moment so by the time I hand over to my cover at 8am and continue to help out, I'm not getting out of work until 9am. I sleep as soon as I get home so I get a bit of an afternoon before heading to work. Since I do that, by the time 8am comes around I'm totally zombified...

Coming home at 10am and going to bed is just horrible.. the later it gets the harder it is to sleep, I find

i used to work 20:00-07:00, 4 on 4 off. that was about 4 years ago now though.

sometimes i would crash out when i got home and get up in the afternoon, but more often than not i would stay up until about 12-1pm then sleep.

I do...

2 Earlies - 0630 - 1400
2 Lates - 1400 - 2200
2 Nights - 2200 - 0630
4 Off

I usually get around 3 hours sleep while at work when I'm on nights, 5 hours if it's the weekend.

I do 22:12 to 06:00, I much prefer the work and people there than the other 4 shifts (weekends being the 4th), and I'm generally ok sleeping after an hour or so Tv in bed when I get home, weekends however my sleep is all to pot, and its often 3-4am before I can even get off.

Start anywhere between 21.30 and 23.30. Shifts are between 6 and 10 hours. One week of nights in every Five. Supposedly a four day week, but it rarely happens that way!!!

I work 4 on, 4 off. For 12 hours 8-8 alternating days and nights.

It's pretty quiet at night most of the time but we are changing to 8 hour shifts which will probably be 10pm-6am for the nights shifts, 4 days on 2 days off.

Having 4 days off currently is great but the 12 hour days are hard. I think although I will only get 2 days off I will prefer the 8 hour shifts.

We get 25% extra money for working these shifts compared to the 9-5ers.

I work Tuesday to Saturday 10pm till 6.30am with 2x30 min breaks, been doing these hours in the same job for 15 years.

I get 42 days holiday as well.

Lates 14:00 - 22:00 x2

10 days off

Days and night are both 12.5hrs, 07.30 - 20.00 days and the reverse for nights.

13 shifts a month, 50/50 nights and days, some weeks its all nights, some all days, mostly a mix. This week its 4 nights Tues-Fri.

I never sleep much on nights, 4 hours ish usually. One short break (eat) and one long break (sleep) on nights, 3 shortish ones on days but on both it depends how busy it is, if its all kicking off then its 20 minutes to throw some food down you and back to the floor.

When I was working on dredgers a long time back, the hours were 0700 - 1800 for seven days then following an eighteen hour changeover to 1800 - 0700 for seven days then seven days off.

I soon took on all nights together with a collegue who took all days so 1800 to 0700 for fourteen days then seven days off.

My shifts are:
2 days, 2 nights - 4 days off - repeat this until you've worked 28 days, then 18 days off.
All shifts are 12.5 hours. Days are 5:30am - 18:00, nights are 5:30pm - 6:00am.

Works quite well imo, only actually in work 140~ days of the year :D
