Route is a club which has two floors. The upper floor tends to have less people, is less sticky, and also less "pop" dance music. It's on queen street, halfway up.
As is Sky rooms, which is at the bottom of the high street, on the corner next to JJB. Probably a bit better than route, although on more levels, with smaller floors. Lots of mirrors.
Quite often there's people at the top of the high street or on head street which have free entry stamps.
One potential problem for sky rooms tonight, is my friend who is the niece of the owner has a party tonight, which I will mean it is closed, although it doesn't say on the invite when the party ends.
If you're going to route, it's probably best to get on this,
http://www.routecolchester.co.uk/guestlistProtx.asp which costs £4.50, but otherwise, depending on when you turn up, you could end paying a tenner to get in and queueing a
long time.
They're not great, but they'll do.
Go to Ziba(bar) on crouch street for cheap drinks, as they're 4 for a fiver shots(fairly sure they are on saturdays also).
Also, Twisters on North Hill is also good for pre-club drinking, due to its relaxed "pubby" atmosphere.
Playhouse during the day for £1.30 pints.
Avoid:
Yates' - 40yr olds who think they're still young enough.
Hippodrome - Squaddies!
starting fights - most will be squaddies.
The kebab shop opposite Route - savage in the extreme; go to Subway instead, just down the road.
