Ok so i'm doing a music degree and my 15 minutes of music composition for my dissertation is due in on monday. All my work is done on Cubase e.t.c. so I need my PC working flawlessly.

Well, it has been until last night when It had a random blue screen of death stop error. The microsoft error reporting service said it was a problem with the intel matrix raid storage manager. I thought nothing of it and my pc booted up and worked fine for a while this morning until it randomly blue screend on me again.

This time though it wouldnt even boot. it would take ages loading xp then it would just load my desktop background and hang (i.e. no icons, taskbar, nothing)

I did the usual (unplug devices, set all clocks back to defaults) and it turned out it would start normally when the third hard drive wasnt plugged in. i changed the socket it was using from sata 3 to sata 5 and now (fingers crossed) its all working fine again.

Could this have been the problem? Just a sata socket that suddenly went bust? I have never heard of this happening before and i'm worried there is a more deep seated problem!

I really need this solved as soon as possible.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :(

have cleaned dust out of ur pc case? excess dust can cause harware to overheat thus cause BSOD and or dead hardware, especially HDD.

BACKUP IMPORTANT DATA NOW. For work I Backup twice at the end of every day, once on to a pen drive and once onto another drive in the PC/MAC. If its really important I zip it up and email it myself on my Gmail account!

Well ive put all my important files on my portable hard drive. Fingers crossed the pc is working fine now. there is a fair amount of dust in my case. i will give it a clean next week. i don't think it was overheating though.

As i said i just changed the sata socket that the 3rd hard drive was and it booted normally
