nikon 16-80 vs Sigma 17-50

Hi, Was thinking of buying either of these 2 lens and was just wondering if anyone used both and is the 16-80 worth the extra money?
Going to be used on a D7000

I agree the Nikon has a hefty price,compared to the Sigma, but i thought maybe the Nikon would have better contrast and hopefully sharper,....but the price..hmm

You right, the 17-70c would have been a better comparison, but I thought the 17-50 was the sharper lens, compared to the 17-70c
