I'm making the swap to a D800 (yay), and I was messing around earlier with the 18-55 on my Nikon FE and my MF 50 1.8 on my dad's D5000. I was surprised to see that there's next to no vignetting from about 22mm out on the 18-55. I do very very little wide work, and the kit lenses are actually quite sharp stopped down. I was wondering if anyone had any samples from the 18-55 on a full frame camera? My eyes aren't quite good enough to judge the IQ through an FE's viewfinder. I realise it will be a total waste of the D800's IQ but I'm curious more than anything.

The D800 should detect that 18-55mm is a DX lens and automatically switch to DX mode. I don't what resolution the D800 gives in DX mode so it might be a bit better than the D5000's 12MP.

I've seen people using the 35mm 1.8G on a D3 etc. as a full frame camera, so I image there's a way to turn off DX mode even with DX lenses?
