Nikon D3300 not focusing

Hi all, just came across the problem where my d3300 won't focus.

I'm using a 18-105mm lens and made sure the focus switch on the lens is set to auto.

When viewing through the viewfinder there is no focus, even holder the shot button half way through doesn't do anything.

Could someone point me towards the right direction please.
