Nice, i bet they remove a load of features just to differentiate it from the D50. Nice big LCD, but it does lack a 'settings' (?) LCD, so I guess that gets incorporated in the big one.

Looks like the same size LCD that's on the D2X and D200. Wonder if it's the same quality though...

Well, just another excuse for people with too much money to buy a DSLR and use it as a glorified point and shoot. They should get rid of the scene modes all together and just have M, A, S and P. Stupid move if you ask me. Bang goes the days of when SLR's were for the hardcore photographers who new what they were doing.

King.

Does it matter? Sounds rather elitist to me. A bit like saying 'Why did they have to release Windows, they should have stuck with DOS ' If people want to use an expensive DSLRs on auto mode then it's up to them. It's their loss (or gain depending how you look at it).

surely the more people buying DSLR the cheaper they become, hence you being able to buy better equipment for less money (or 2nd hand bargins) and still take better pictures than the rest of us.

win win I think :)

p.s. I dont own a DSLR. but certainly have thought about it for point and shoot at concerts etc :)

This is exactly it. Your better off buying a Fuji point and shoot (best performers in low light) and using that. Saving the person buying it hundreds of pounds. Its nothing to do with elitism (spell) its just the manufactuers pushing technology people dont really use/need, almost forcing them to buy it.

the fuji is exactly what I will get, when i can afford it.

how new is your car?
what size is the engine?
its the same thing, dont need a new car. but people buy them anyway. people dont need a 32" flatscreen. but they buy them anyway.

a consumer market, and the manufacturers bow.

still...doesnt stop you taking better pictures than the rest of us does it? :)

Anyone know what kind of price this thing is being targeted at - if it does materialise. Id like to see DSLRs available at 35mm SLR prices - ie, 200-350. Packed with more electronics, this may be unrealistic, but if they went down the route of consoles, ie flog them cheap but add a premium on lenses. who knows. Still, more choice has got to be a good thing.

I doubt they'd put a premium on lenses to shift any of their cameras cheap. Maybe they already do. But I doubt they'd increase the prices more, that would be unfair to the consumer who already owns a Nikon body. As for price, I'd say £300 ish for the body, give or take.
