Nikon D5

No to both ! Doesn't sound like a great purchase for most photographers. Unless you shoot reportage professionally there are probably better ( and cheaper ) options to choose from.

my twin brothers pre-ordered the d5 still waiting on release , getting the dual xqd version, i just got the d500 actually waiting for me when i get home mainly got it for the awesome focus ability.

I'm thinking of getting one when they are available.. I was going to pre-order but didn't get around to it. Having said that the D500 is looking a good cheaper alternative so I may change my mind. Just looking for a different camera to accompany my D810.

exactly the same reason i bought a d500 , also have the d810 for 36mp (love the camera but a bit slow) , could not justify the d5 for full frame etc

I don't think I could ever justify spending £8k on a lens.
I would however happily spend that if I had lots and lots of money :D

The thing is with good lenses they depreciate slowly. Eg, purchased a 2nd hand 80-200mm f/2.8 for $900 CHF and sold it 3 years later to the same shop I purchased it from for $800. Could have probably got $950 if I tried on eBay.

It is easier to buy these things of you think of it as a rental fee with hefty safety deposit! You can also make differences to your lifestyle, e.g you might be able to afford a £20k BMW but can buy a £2k 2nd hand ford mondeo, they both achieve the same thing taking you from A to B. In a few years time the BMW might be worth £7k, the model is still work £1200.
