Far far away....
I need to test the inbuilt flash on my D50 as regardless of the light the flash will not fire, i have checked the flash setting, defaulted the camera settings but it will just not fire.

Is there any other way I can force the flash to test it?

If it broken it is under warranty so its not the end of the world.

Flip it up, put it in Auto. If its dark, it should flash.

Nope doesn't work, I'm in a room with just two monitors on, camera is in Auto mode, flash is set to Auto. I have just taken a couple of test shots and the flash does not fire.

Change flash mode until it is forced on (should display a little lightening style arrow kinda symbol)

Flip it up with the camera on manual, on my 350D when the flash is up with it on manual it uses the flash because you have opened it.

Might be the same on the D50?

D70 does this, so i expect the D50 to do the same.

My D70n had a similar issue, the pop up flash on the d70 knows when the flash is up and it was releasing the flash but not recognizing it was up so it kept trying to release it, meaning you couldn't use the flash. In the end I sent it back to Nikon under warranty. They fixed it, cleaned it and upgraded the firmware for me!

Just had word back from the repair company that Nikon have shipped the camera, repaired for delivery to me on Friday.

I have just received the camera back and it has had a full service, clean and the circuit board replaced.

And best of all the flash works!
