Looking at buying a Nikon D7000 and getting back into Photography (haven't owned a DSLR since I sold my Nikon D70 about 5 years ago).

Are they still top of the game in the £5-600 price bracket, or is there anything better to consider.

Si.

I can't find a D7100 for that price, there all a good few 100 dearer (I'm talking of the kit price, not just the Body).

Yes, the D7000 is still a great camera, especially at £560 ish UK prices.

The D7100 is still £830 though & tbh for most people, they won't see a big difference.

(You could buy/import from outside the EU & save some money, but warranty issues & VAT/duty need consideration)

D7000 with the 18-105 kit, £649 from J Lewis

Compared to the 7000 The 7100 has a better focusing system, higher resolution 24mp v 16mp, larger & higher res screen, expeed 3 processor v expeed 2, better weather sealing? And probably a few other slight changes

Is it worth the extra money over the 7000? Only you will know

I would try to plump up for the D7100 for the better sensor and auto focus.D7000 is still fantastic but the D7100 outrageously good really.

I wish I could, but £650 is pushing my budget to the max.. Would I be better going for a different model at that price range? D5300 maybe?

Not really much to choose between the two technically, I'd personally go for the 7000, feels much better quality. I can't see any benefit of the 5300 other than gimmicks like GPS, Wireless and a flip screen that I'd probably end up snapping off by accident.

The 7000 has much better battery life, it's weather sealed, has 2 SD card slots, built in focus motor, the shutter can manage 1/8000s over the 5300's 1/4000 and it'll do 6fps rather than the 5300's 5.

Looking at prices again, the 7100 is a LOT dearer than the 7000 (unless I go for an import).

I recently upgraded to a D7000 from a D90. Really happy with the upgrade. Auto focus is so much quicker and the ISO performance is great. Im finding I get so many more keepers then before.

I did want the D7100 but budget just wouldnt allow it. Happy with my choice.

Tbh you should have gone for the d7100 , just seen you can get it for £500

Just kidding, enjoy the 7000!

Hmm, the one I ordered off Jessops earlier is showing as '1 on backorder' on the tracking screen, but showing as in stock on the product page,

Bugger, mine is showing the same thing..

It better get dispatched today or I'm cancelling the order. Hate it when websites list them as in stock when there not.

Just got this reply so here's hoping ....

Thank you for your email regarding your order. I can see that the item is in stock but our system states that the orders are on ‘back-order’ when they are first placed. The items are in stock and ready to be allocated to your order. This should be out for delivery for you tomorrow.

I had this because the delivery address differed from my billing address. They had tried to call me but for some reason the message didn't get to me till days later. Anyway, I called them, confirmed some details and it was with me the next day.
