I am looking at getting the the Nikon D7100, probably the body only.

I currently have the following

Nikon D50
18 - 55mm Kit lens
Nikon 50mm f1.8
Nikon 55 - 200mm ED VR f4 5.6
Nikon SB-600

Can anyone confirm the above is compatible with the D7100.

All of it will work fine. You might want to upgrade your 18-55mm at ome point

Is it worth getting the kit with the 18-105mm VR lens or buy the body and a separate lens?

I don;t photograph anything in particular, just you everyday general stuff, family get togethers, trips to the zoo etc.

Depends what budget you have an what you like to shoot. The 18-105 is a nice step up from the 18-55 and is quite cheap as part of the kit.
You could also look at getting a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 which will give you a wider aperture, so shallower depth of focus for portraits but also more light gather ability so you can lower your ISO.

More expensive and to easily available yet but I think the sigma 18-35mm f1.8 makes a stunning lens. As fast as a prime al the way through and apparently just as sharp! More limiting focal length but would pair well with a lens like the 18-105mm

I went from a D50 to the D7100 and it's been a brilliant upgrade. The 18-105 kit lens has done me well so far, but I can see that the D7100 is crying out for better glass, so as D.P says above, the 18-35 F1.8 from Sigma is a likely future purchase. Be aware that with the extra resolution comes the need for better technique! If you pixel-peep you'll see any focus / camera movement issues more clearly than on your D50. The additional controls and setup options have really helped me take better photo's I think, particularly auto-ISO and the additional ISO headroom. It's a great camera...

The left focus issues were reported early on on DPReview by a few folks, but it's not been mentioned for ages on their forums, and believe me if it was an issue the folks on there would be all over it.
