Hi just slowly getting into Photography and recently got myself a Nikon D80 and learning the ropes with it.

I would like to get a remote or remote shutter release as would like to do some shots on 'bulb' etc.

Just was not sure what one to get. I do not know if the ML-L3 would be suitable or do I need one that physically plugs into the camera.

many thanks if you can point me in the right direction.

Just buy the cheapest UK based one from Ebay.

I paid £2.79 delivered for mine and it works absolutely fine.

if that is the ML-L3 you are referring to. Would it be able to hold the shutter open and then another press to shut it, if I am doing say 'light trails' on 'bulb' setting.

Was not sure if either that is the one you are referring to or be it would do that.

Thanks

The IR ones don't offer that functionality (I don't think). You will need one with a lock that plugs into the release socket on the side of the camera, there are wired and wireless versions.

Try googling for "JJC Replacement Nikon MC-DC1 RF Wireless (100m) Remote Switch For Nikon D70s D80"

In bulb mode you press once on the remote to open the shutter and when your done simply Press again to close the shutter using the ML-L3 and works on the d7000 & d70 so d80 should be the same!
